“We found the property to be clean and warm but in need of an update.”

The 13amp single socket on the landing was loose and needed repair before it could be safely used. As a retired electronics engineer turned latterly to a health and safety inspector I was disappointed to find an electrical outlet in that state. I couldn’t see the point of having a bath with a shower over the bath when the bath taps only fed the shower and wouldn’t fill the bath, why have a bath you couldn’t use unless you wanted to spent an age filling it with the shower. We particularly pick sites with secure outdoor space so we can relax outside with a coffee, my wife has a disability that impacts her walking so we usually stay at the property’s every other day and sit out talking ect. The outdoor space was disgusting. The grass was 13/14cm long and when I checked it I found several places where dogs had been to the toilet. I picked some up but gave up in disgust, if you want pictures I can send you some. The table and two chairs had an ashtray full of water and cigarette ash and stubbed out cigarettes. The neighbours next door even offered the use of their garden for our use because of the state of our space. As a plus point the parking was easily accessed and had ample room for two cars if needed. Overall my view was, although the house was warm and the sleeping arrangements warm and comfortable we would not pick the house again. I will add, but I’m not surprised, this is the first Sykes cottage we have stayed in that had no comments book for customer feed back.

“We had a lovely stay again.”

But we noticed a few things from last time. There were spiders and cobwebs in the bedroom & cobwebs up high in the bathroom & lounge. The bath taps are loose when you have a shower. The information about bin days needs updating, and we brought DVDs but couldn't use them because the DVD player can't be connected to the television. But overall we had a pleasant stay.

Thank you for your feedback. We have tackled the bushes which are beautiful in flower but had got a bit big I agree. The lawn is cut at each changeover unless it is wet which unfortunately may have been the case prior to your visit. Glad you liked the bed Property Owner

“I have already spoken to owner about the situation at the cottage about the problem with noise from the neighbours .”

we had a terrible week as the shouting and arguing went on continually all day and night a horrible week, but both the owner of our property knew about the situation and the owner of the rented house next door and the lack of cleanliness all around the cottage a point that a deep clean had been brought to her attention in January by another guest and still by April the situation had not been addressed. Not acceptable at all.

“Quiet little cul-de-sac position perfect location to explore Scarborough and surrounding areas.”

Had everything we needed ( except lighter for gas hob ,but managed with microwave until we got one ).Comfy bed and hot powerful shower. I would say maybe could do with a deep clean ( cutlery drawer) and radiators a bit dusty. Cushions on sofas could do with replacing as flat making it difficult to get comfy. Overall as expected for rating and had an enjoyable weekend.

Cosy and comfy, a quiet peaceful area .Off road parking space a bonus. Microwave a bit high for me but my husband could reach it ok . Although we have a car the cottage is easily accessible for buses so we had a run round to different places on buses( especially since we had our passes ).

The only thing we could have done with was a clock and being able to watch Freeview on the tv. The next time we go to Scarborough we will definitely book Quarterdeck if it's available.

Both myself and my partner were extremely impressed with how clean and comfortable it was. The enclosed garden was great for our dog and the location of the cottage was super - just a short walk from the beach and other attractions. The little touches in this cottage really made us smile on arrival. A jar of dog biscuits and a selection of tea/coffee/ and biscuits for us made for a warm welcome. The towel rail did come off in the bathroom during our stay but it didn't affect us. Absolutely no complaints whatsoever about our stay. We can't wait to stay here again.

It was one of 3 properties in a single small building. The space for off road parking, if that is what it was, was somewhat taken over by vegetation, though there was a reserved parking space. The garden area is not attached to the property which is what we thought from the description. More guidance on using some of the appliances would have been helpful.

The back garden is adjacent to the property and this is clear in the property write up with Sykes - I am sorry this was a surprise to you. It is a very clean,comfortable and cosy house in a great location ten minutes from the beach with three pubs within ten minutes walk also. Many improvements have been to this property over time, and we will definitely be back again. The only slight negative thing is the uncomfortable settees which seems to be a recurring theme in most reviews, these have been at the property for as long as we have been going and are very tired so could do with being replaced.

The location couldn’t have been any better. 5 mins walk to beach/Pub/Tesco extra/Waterpark. The cottage was very cosy and warm. It looks like there has been a full refurb to a high standard. The kitchen was well stocked with a new cooker. Upstairs bathroom lovely with a brilliant shower. The bed was very comfortable. Great value for money. We would highly recommend you try this cottage. “Whilst property was clean, tidy, in good location, what let it down was very uncomfortable sofas, when you are all day walking, its nice to sit down and relax, not to end up with back ache from furniture that should have been replaced years ago, also our double bed was two singles put together, also not very comfortable, wifi was hit and miss, and one toilet roll for two adults for one week is ridiculous, we wont be back for sure.”

DEFINATELY A HAZARD bum nearly on the floor. Bathroom not been cleaned upon arrival. Garden no lighting. Solar lighting would be good. No way for dogs to see. . Not next to property. Expected to clea whole house before leaving. Vacum made house smell. Upon arrival strong smell of dog urine. Spent money on joss sticks to stem the smell. Possibly wood floor or lino would help with smell. Soft furnishing need cleaning. Awful smelly....maybe owner to spot check cleaners occasionally. We spend extra to have houses cleaned,yes we clean as we do at home,but think it's a check to do thorough deep clean upon leaving as we didn't find this on arrival. 2nd time we booked expected sofas to been replaced. . Plants front garden should be trimmed so front windows can be opened too give fresh air. Some little snag lists to be repaired plugs small fingers can get in. Taps loose etc. Possibly owners to stay clear for weekend to see how it is for clients.

“The house is lovely apart from the settees that have both sadly seen better days.”

They both sag tremendously in the middle so much so you need a hand of get yourself up from them. Also the bed is a zip linked and is far too soft you roll into the middle. Sadly I won’t be visiting this accommodation a third time. After my first experience I thought perhaps the owner would change the furniture but alas she hasn’t. So no more for me, pity as I do love to visit Scarborough every year sometimes twice. But not in this accommodation.

We enjoyed exploring the surrounding areas all within an easy car journey or a walk into Scarborough We would suggest getting your outside light changed as it is not of any use at present, not bright enough. Although you state enclosed garden it is not enclosed to the property for dogs, you have to go with them to the garden although only a few metres away, our dog could also fit under the gap next to the gate. Overall though a lovely stay in a homely environment and would thoroughly recommend. Thanks for the wine and the dog treats on arrival, a thoughtful touch.

“The place was clean and usable,,,, but a number of improvements could be made :- The picture even on your email and online information is misleading it gives the impression of the place being a bigger place not converted into two small units with side doors.”

.. lots of noisy floorboards need fixing Microwave in kitchen needs to be sorted as its dangerous, for two reasons almost fulls of the wall just one screw holding it up and the brackets are all wrong,,, 2nd its to high would be very easy to tip hot contenance over oneself Door of bathroom does not fit. Shower hard to use cannot get to the taps without getting into it, awkward when just doing ones hair etc, table under the stairs is very tight, Would suggest a re think down stairs perhaps remove the wall from the kitchin to the living area remove the two old pull out beds and put some 90 degree nice seating there from the side wall under the window to the kitching side, also placing a table there, the heating could go under the stairs...... a small wishing machine dryer could be fitted under a kitchen unit next to the sink,,, Kind Regards

Pickering 17 miles; Whitby 20 miles; York 40 miles.

Popular since Victorian times, the vibrant seaside town of Scarborough retains many of its original fine buildings, parks and gardens, as well as its historic castle which overlooks the town.
