“Fantastic cosy cottage, which was lovely and warm throughout.”

Very well equipped. Lovely views of the countryside and animals from every window. Free to wander chickens greeted us every morning out of our kitchen window along with fresh eggs available every morning. Loved it so much we have booked again for a week in April.

The property

Helmsley 7 miles.

A traditional, stone-built, semi-detached cottage, adjoining the owners' property on their working livestock farm near Old Byland, seven miles from the delightful market town of Helmsley.

Set in a peaceful location within the National Park, Wethercote Cottage has far reaching views across the North York Moors.

Cosy and comfortable, the open-plan living area retains much charm and character, including ancient low ceiling beams and pine doors.

A large, lawned garden complements the setting; the perfect place to sit and relax.

With numerous public footpaths in the area providing excellent walking opportunities, and Thirsk and Helmsley, with their pretty market squares, tempting tea rooms and country inns within very easy reach, this makes for a great holiday.

This lovely cottage is very close to Sutton Bank Bikes Ltd, where you can hire bikes for the day and explore the many cycle-ways and trails nearby.

Hop onto the Cleveland Way, which passes close by, leading from Helmsley, through Thirsk and around the North York Moors National Park to the coast and down to Filey.

Local attractions include Duncombe Park stately home, the James Herriot museum, Castle Howard and the historic City of York, to name but a few.

A superb Yorkshire cottage in a terrific location.

About the location

HELMSLEY

Kirkbymoorside 6 miles; Thirsk 14 miles; Pickering 13 miles; York 26 miles.

Lying in a sheltered corner of Upper Ryedale, on the southern edge of the North York Moors National Park, Helmsley is a prestigious market town with a spacious market square surrounded by houses, hotels and shops. The area is important historically - Helmsley has its own 12th century castle and English Heritage’s Rievaulx Abbey and Castle Howard are close by. Helmsley also boasts an arts centre showing films and plays, and an outdoor swimming pool, which is open during the summer. There is excellent walking on the doorstep - indeed the Cleveland Way starts in Helmsley - and the surrounding North York Moors with their hidden dales and villages are pretty in all seasons. York is less than an hour's drive south, as is Scarborough, Whitby and the east coast, whilst Pickering and the beginning of the famous steam railway line (North Yorkshire Moors Railway) are a little over 20 minutes' drive.
