“We had a wonderful stay at Sunnyside Garden Cottage in Husthwaite.”

Very friendly reception by Sue, the owner, who surprised us with a selfmade lemon drizzle cake. The cottage was clean and provided with all the goods one needs. Very comfortable and quiet. After the first week Sue provided us with clean bedlinen and towels. Our compliments, highly recommended. We would love to come back one time.

Well equipped and comfy bed. Please note there is no longer a shop in the village and the pub is closed on a Monday and Tuesday. There are several walks from the door especially to Coxwold. The owner makes a lovely lemon drizzle cake greatly appreciated.

“Just wonderful.”

Sunnyside was spotlessly clean. The telly was better than my elderly flat screen one ( I'm going to replace it now!). The garden was a haven of peace and tranquility. We slept well in the comfortable beds and it was lovely to hear a tawny owl at night. There are many books in the property great for reading outside on the little patio set provided. We breakfasted outside every day. Now for the best part...Loki! Loki is the owners young working cocker who fast became my little dogs best friend. Charlie has been quite bereft since his return home. We have promised him that this time next year we will return for a two week stay. Thank you Sue for providing such a comfortable and peaceful retreat to return to after a days sightseeing.

The owner and family live adjoining house, yet value privacy. ‘ A positive reflection’, the garden is shown on pictures, is quirky and was particularly what I liked. There is parking space not shown on pictures. I would return, for the garden retreat . The cake is the best ! that the owner bakes.

Sue made us feel very welcome and was so helpful. She also bakes the best lemon drizzle cake! It's situated in a great area with lots to explore locally and within a short drive. We went to Castle Howard, Yorkshire lavender, Helmsley and Bolton Abbey was close by. Our dog enjoyed the local walks and the garden. There are lots of villages with lovely, dog friendly pubs. Easingwold had a lovely café called The Olive Tree. Unfortunately didn't get the chance to try the pub just down the road, but it looked very nice. Would definitely recommend this to anyone wanting to explore the area.

The lemon drizzle cake was lovely and went down very well with our afternoon cuppas. The only downside was the access to the rear of the property and we were pleased we only have a small car as the track is very narrow and quite overgrown at the moment.

The owner had even baked us a scrumptious lemon drizzle cake to welcome us! The property is spacious and had everything we needed during our stay. It is situated in the heart of the village and is very peaceful but it is easy to get to many attractions and walks. We would definately recommend it. Oh, and I forgot to ask the owner what fabric conditioner she used, our bed linen and towels smelt gorgeous the whole week!!!

“This is a splendid hideaway, well off the standard tourist routes.”

If you want a quiet stay withing reach of the essential luxuries of life this is highly recommended. I would have given it a FIVE STARS rating but, the day after we arrived we got news that my mother was grievously ill. I couldn't, in all fairness, say that the stay was a great pleasure under the circumstances. Having said that I'm sure we will be back in the future. Ten out of ten, Sue!

“The annex is lovely but the lounge furniture is tired , i.”

E . chairs and stools have very loose joints plus the settee is very low and uncomfortable . Access to the property in anything above a small car is difficult as it is very narrow .I would like to suggest a wasing up bowl and brush plus perhaps a broom for sweeping up as using the dust pan provided is fine if you are young and flxible . These comments are not meant as critcism but to perhaps help Sue make the place even bettter . P.s. we had a great time there and it is a lovely village .

We enjoyed our stay immensely. Very comfortable. I would recomd the purchase of a small washing up bowl for the sink, we bought one in Morristons. Also a hair dryer, an iron and board. Also the brush and dustpan had disappeared. All these things are small and easily supplied. Otherwise we had a lovely holiday in a very beautiful area. The host was friendly and helpful. I would recomd this cottage very highly

We even had snowfall. I really enjoyed my holiday. Lovely lemon cake was eaten within two days! Good smart tv and excellent wifi. It was great for me as one person here and would be great for two as well. I find it hard to think of anything to constructively criticise. No cannot think of anything. When we arrived we found that the owner had left a lemon drizzle cake on the table ... it lasted us most of the week, having a slice at the end of each day with a cup of tea. The owner is very nice and accommodating ... unobtrusive, but there if we wanted to ask any questions. The annex is well designed, clean, well maintained and contained everything that we needed to make our time there comfortable and homely. We went for many long walks and mountain bike rides during our stay, sometimes directly from the Annex and sometimes driving to nearby areas. We would definitely recommend this accommodation.

“There is only a very thin door that separates this annexe with the main house and because of that I was very aware of quite a bit of noise (just everyday life stuff but I was quite aware of it) there was one night I actually thought there was someone coming up the stairs.”

I felt very conscious of any noise that I was making like the TV volume or if my dog barked. Not an enjoyable part of the holiday.

It was lovely to go out for the day and come back home to a nice warm cottage. The location was good for going to lots of places as the A19 was close. The owner was nice and helpful, there was parking by the cottage door. I would be glad to stay there again.

This fresh, well-appointed cottage is an annexe to the owner's home in the historic North Yorkshire village of Husthwaite.

With the Howardian Hills and North York Moors close by, this cottage is perfect for a couple of walkers wanting to discover what these incredible areas have to offer.

After an exhilarating day of exploring and venturing through the local area, curl up and watch the TV on the comfortable leather sofa which conveniently sits opposite the cottage's front door.

The ground floor is occupied by a spacious open-plan living area, complete with a modern and well-equipped kitchen and a dining table set for four people, should you want to invite some friends over for dinner.

The crisp, white first floor provides you with a homely bedroom, complete with stunning views of the surrounding countryside; the room boasts a twin bed which can be pushed together to make a super king-size double and a luscious en-suite shower room.

HUSTHWAITE

Easingwold 3 miles; Thirsk 6 miles; York 17 miles.

The small historic village of Husthwaite lies on the edge of the North York Moors National Park, overlooking the Vale of York. Picturesque and peaceful, the village is a perfect introduction to "Herriot Country", a beautiful old Norman church, many fine old houses and an active village hall hosting many events throughout the year. The nearby White Horse of Kilburn, cut out of the hillside in 1857, is a prominent local landmark. The lovely market town of Easingwold is nearby, boasting a pretty market square and a good selection of shops, pubs and cafes, whilst York with its famous Minster, medieval walls and Jorvik Viking Centre, is a short drive away. The Yorkshire Dales and the North York Moors and Coast are also within easy touring distance and are rich in stately homes and National Trust attractions - Harewood House and Castle Howard are just two of several within an hour's drive.
