“Comfortable and warm with all mod cons.”

Would just say the carpet on the stairs needs some extra tacks and another hand rail would be a great help

The property

Staithes 1.6 miles.

Situated near the coast in the quaint setting of Port Mulgrave, just a short drive from neighbouring Staithes in North Yorkshire, you will find the charming, stone-built cottage of The Seaside House.

With an enclosed patio garden, set along a clifftop, and a superb location just a short drive from the nearest shop and pub, this delightful home welcomes a family of four or a group of sharing friends for a relaxing, self-catered escape within the magnificent North York Moors National Park.

Delight upon entering your new home-from-home as you’ll find an array of well-appointed living spaces, starting with a fully-equipped kitchen housing every appliance the chosen chef could desire; a dining area with breakfast bar and seating for the whole group; and an inviting sitting space complete with a large corner sofa and a sleek, wall-mounted Smart TV, where you and your loved ones can gather in the evenings to enjoy a film or two as day rolls into night.

In warmer months, be sure to head outdoors with a glass of your favourite tipple to kick back and relax on the garden furniture, raising glasses aloft to toast your fabulous trip.

When sleep inevitably calls, refresh with a shower on the ground-floor before you head upstairs to catch your precious sleep in either a sumptuous king-size or twin bedroom.

If you can tear yourself from your lovely new lodgings, a short walk will bring you to Hinderwell High Street where you can stop off for a pint at the Badger and Hounds pub, whilst there is also a tea room and village hub where you can buy arts and crafts and enjoy tea and coffee.

The closest town to your new abode is Whitby, where you can visit the iconic spots of Whitby Abbey and Beach, brush up on some local history at Whitby Museum, amble through the scenic greens of Pannett Park, or even join a spooky guided tour at the Dracula Experience.

Head to the hamlet of Port Mulgrave to spend a day fossil hunting on the beach, a hidden gem located between Staithes and Runswick Bay along the North Yorkshire Coast.

Alternatively, a quick car trip into nearby Staithes will allow you to stock up on essentials at the Co-Op, whilst a visit to The Staithes Story museum or a peaceful walk alongside Staithes Beck or Staithes Harbour is also recommended whilst you're in the village.

For a full day out, continue north drive along the coast until you reach Saltburn-by-the-Sea, a lovely spa town home to the serene Saltburn Valley Gardens, the wonderful Saltburn Beach Cliffs, and the tranquil setting of the Saltburn Gill Nature Reserve.

Whisk your loved ones away for the ultimate retreat to North Yorkshire at The Seaside House.

About the location

STAITHES

Whitby 10 miles.

The charming and sleepy seaside village of Staithes, with its cobbled streets and back alleys, is something of an artist’s dream. Its pretty houses and cottages are clustered around the old harbour and surrounded by high craggy cliffs on three sides, with a sheltered sandy beach set amongst the rocky coastline. The village can claim connections with Captain Cook who was apprenticed to a draper near the harbour. Nowadays, Staithes is a must for anyone visiting the Yorkshire Coast and has a good selection of pubs, shops and tea rooms. Staithes is still home to an RNLI lifeboat station and a small fleet of cobles (fishing boats) landing fish, crab and lobster, with boat trips for birdwatching, fishing and even whale watching available. It’s also the location of the popular BBC children’s TV series, Old Jack’s Boat. Staithes has a strong attraction for artists, with an annual Art and Heritage Festival, galleries and artists studios with art courses and workshops regularly on offer. There’s a free Illusion Trail, which guides visitors around the network of ginnels (alleyways), with trail guides available locally. The best views of the town can be enjoyed from the Cleveland Way which runs down the cliff to the sea’s edge. Altogether a superb base for exploring the Yorkshire Coast, visiting the larger resorts of Whitby or Scarborough and enjoying the moorland villages of the North York Moors National Park.
