The property

A welcoming all-ground-floor cottage resting on the fringes of the North York Moors National Park.

Dovecote Cottage makes a wonderful touring base for exploring the coast and countryside of Yorkshire with your loved one.

Just over five miles from the traditional seaside town of Scarborough, with attractions to suit all tastes, this stone-built abode is a true delight at any time of the year.

Make yourselves at home within the inviting open-plan living space, where you can sit amongst the warmth of the woodburning stove sat inside the characterful exposed stone of the inglenook, and raise a toast to your romantic retreat, the plush sofa also doubling up as a bed to offer a flexible sleeping arrangement if you're travelling with a friend instead.

The kitchen is well-equipped with all you could need when you're not out making the most of the delicious eateries of the local area, with an electric oven and hob, microwave, fridge/freezer and a washing machine, it offers all the essentials for a week-long stay.

Enjoy your meals around the table together, or dine alfresco out in your own private garden, the surrounding countryside making a beautiful backdrop at any time of the day.

Relax with a soothing shower in the shower room to end your day before unwinding beneath the covers of the double bed, the bedroom equipped with a television, perfect for those lazy mornings.

The local area of Cloughton makes a wonderful base for those seeking an idyllic retreat; a small village home to Flossies Farm Shop where you can pick up all the essentials for a hearty breakfast as well as boasting a charming tea garden where you can indulge in a homemade cake whilst soaking up the views of the sea, Scarborough Castle and Flambrough Head in the distance, you can find all you could need just a short stroll away, with the choice of four pubs in the village too for a refreshment following a day of rambling.

Nearby you will find the renowned Cinder Track, a disused railway track taking you all the way from Scarborough to Whitby, it provides an extremely scenic spot for walking, cycling and horseback riding, with plenty of adventure to discover along the way.

The 109 mile-long Cleveland Way is also nearby too, leading you across stunning heather moorland and dramatic coastline, here you can explore the beauty of Saltburn-by-the-Sea, or venture further to find the old fishing village of Filey; there's no better way to explore the beauty of the North Yorkshire coast.

Spend a day in Scarborough for fun for all tastes, offering a wide selection of eateries where you can enjoy a celebratory meal, as well as beautiful beaches with opportunities for watersports, golfing, the Stephen Joseph Theatre, Scarborough Spa and Scarborough Open Air Theatre hosting live music events, there's so much to explore here at any time of year.

The perfect property for an action-packed escape to North Yorkshire, choose Dovecote Cottage for your next couple's retreat.

Note: This property has a Good Housekeeping bond of £200.

About the location

CLOUGHTON

Scarborough 4.8 miles; Ravenscar 6.3 miles; Robin Hood's Bay 11.6 miles; Whitby 14.8 miles.

Cloughton lies just under five miles north of Scarborough, on the edge of the North York Moors National Park. Home to old cottages lining the main street and more modern developments behind, the village boasts an eclectic mix of contemporary and traditional to bring a charming atmosphere to all its visitors, as well as offering a welcoming farm shop where you can pick up any essentials and two pubs on the main street and two on the outskirts. Close by is the popular 'Cinder Track', a disused 23 mile long railway track, that's now used for walking, cycling and horse riding. There is easy access to the Cleveland Way, a long distance trail that hugs the cliff top as it winds its way to Hayburn Wyke, a rocky cove with a waterfall and inn, Robin Hood's Bay and beyond to the north and south to Scarborough. Popular since Victorian times, this vibrant seaside town of Scarborough retains many of its original fine buildings, parks and gardens, as well as its historic castle which overlooks the town. North Bay and South Bay provide two superb stretches of beautiful, golden sandy beaches, popular with families and small children. There are a number of child-friendly activities and many excellent visitor attractions for grown-ups too, including the Stephen Joseph Theatre, Scarborough Spa and Scarborough Open Air Theatre for live music. There are plenty of outdoor activities within easy reach too, with golf courses, coastal walks along the Cleveland Way, stunning cycle routes such as the old railway to Whitby, beautiful sailing and championship quality surfing, offering something for every taste. Ideally situated for touring both the coast and countryside, Cloughton is an ideal base for a fun-filled break at any time of year.
