Wagtail Nest, Northfield Cottage

Lovely little cottage situated close to Scarborough although if that is not your scene (and it was not ours, too busy) you are situated in a peaceful rural area with plenty walks for the dog and ideally placed for exploring the surrounding area.

The one thing to improve the cottage would be a more comfortable bed.

Loved the property, the décor was very much us and the hot tub was fab.

The welcome basket and milk where a lovely touch and meant we could make a cuppa and have some cake straight away to take in the location from the enclosed garden. Will definitely be going back.

We had a truly relaxing stay at Wagtail Nest.

The cottage is beautiful, comfortable, and set in a peaceful spot with lovely views that made each morning feel special. It was exactly the kind of break we were hoping for. Our dog, Freddie absolutely loved having the paddock to play in and spent ages watching the birds and the sheep in the field across the road . The whole place has a calm, welcoming feel, and we left feeling refreshed and very grateful for such a lovely stay. Highly recommended for anyone looking for comfort, quiet, and a touch of countryside charm.

Everything was perfect for us. The welcome basket was such a thoughtful touch, and Paul our host was so friendly and helpful.The hot tub was ready for us when we arrived and a very welcome addition to our holiday. Our dog loved the dog paddock which was secure and surrounded by fields of sheep and beautiful views. We will certainly return.Thank you Paul for a very enjoyable break.

Brilliant place to stay.

Quiet area on farm. Perfect area for large dog to run around a private horse paddock. Paul perfect hoist - guidance in area - walks, pubs restaurants. Perfect area for walks very close to forest walks. Relaxing area just listening to birds and animals while in hot tub. All facilities inside cottage. Perfect place to stay will go again to do rest of forest walks and lunches . Thankyou Paul .

This is our 2nd visit and despite the weather, we loved it just as much.

The cottage has everything you need, its so peaceful, surrounded by farmland. So close to Scarborough, Pickering, North York Moors, Dalby Forest etc you are spoilt for choice. After a long walk, the jacuzzi is the best to relax in. We didn't want to come home.

On the arrival day we had to phone Paul becuase we could not find the property.

He came out of his house and we could see him so we were not far away. Paul came in with us and showed us round and how everything worked which was brilliant. Great location for us and the hot tub was an added bonus

The hot tub was great. The owner Paul greeted us on arrival to make sure everything was okay,then left us to it. Such a lovely area lots to see and do. Would highly recommend this cottage.

Very nice little place.

Just like the pictures, nice countryside surrounding. Hot tub is a very nice touch and our greyhound also had a great time here. Very close to Scarborough.

We stayed last October and gave the place an absolutely glowing review, we stayed last week and well.

.......... it was still just as wonderful. Location, accommodation, cleanliness, hot tub everything was brilliant. As always Paul was helpful and lovely, cheers for a great week mate. My only slight gripe was the bed was too firm for us and meant we didn't sleep as well as we'd hoped but obviously that's a personal thing, some prefer a firmer mattress. Will we stay again? You betcha.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Wagtail nest.

It was clean and well presented and very comfortable. The hot tub was a real bonus. The location of the property is perfect for exploring all the main towns and villages. We have stayed at the cottage twice now and it has been great both times. It is clean, cosy and comfortable. We love the hot tub as well! The location is great, with lovely countryside views. We would definitely recommend and we already want to come back a third time!

Beautiful views over the fields, the most amazing hot tub. Great heating, which we needed at the beginning of the stay (storm Amy) but certainly not once the weather warmed up. Great welcome pack for when we arrived. Paul was great, there if needed but just let us get on with our week. Everything you would hope for in a week away.

The cottage is home from home.

We felt settled immediately. We received a warm welcome from Paul, the owner. There were bird feeders in the garden and we loved watching the birds and identifying them. It was so restful & peaceful. It was peace to come back to after a day out.

Absolutely fantastic little cottage in a very peaceful location but within easy reach of all tourist attractions I.

e Whitby etc. A very nice touch was the basket of goodies left on the table, most welcome. The hot tub was fantastic and very relaxing. Not really a criticism as each to their own requirements but we found the bed a little uncomfortable but having said that it certainly wouldn’t prevent us from booking again,

Everything you need in this lovely quiet spot.The hot tub is amazing, the garden is small but still big enough for a table and 2 chairs to enjoy the sunshine.There is a lovely paddock to exercise your dogs in.Despite being next door to the owners you never hear them, but they are available if you have any enquiries. Lovely place to explore the surrounding countryside and parks. We were lucky enough to see deer ,owls and bats. The only downfall is that it's a double rather than a kingsize bed, but that hasn't put us off as we have already booked to return next year. A great place to distress and chill out.

Wagtail cottage provided an excellent base for us to visit Scarborough, Filey, Whitby and other local spots and being a couple of miles from the nearest village gave us a quiet and peaceful break which we wanted, Also the privacy the cottage gave made it easy to relax in the hot tub at the end of the day with views of rolling fields and distant bleats of sheep could not have been better, All rooms were perfect and clean with a well equipped kitchen.

Paul was friendly and welcoming and made a nice fuss of our little dog, I would not hesitate to book this accommodation again. Thanks again.

It's only a personal preference the mattress was a bit soft for us otherwise perfect.

This is a beautiful little cottage, we've stayed here twice before and would definitely be back again.

Just perfect!!!

This small cottage was perfect for our last minute winter break with our dog.

Everything that we needed was there. Host was friendly and attentive if needed. Hot tub was great, and the cottage decor cosy and relaxing. Would advise arriving in daylight as the local area signal wasn’t great, and affected Sat nav/ phone maps etc but the cottage is obvious from the road. Lovely stay and will go back as fantastic base for exploring Yorkshire coastline

Was greeted with such a lovely warming of different treats. It was so very clean when we go there. Beautiful little house and perfect for a little getaway. I could not fault this place at all, in such a nice quiet location aswell.

The cottage is warm and cosy, and after some wonderful daytime walks - coming back to the hot tub was the finishing touch!! Enjoyed the cottage and exploring the area so much we have already booked our return visit (which we do rarely!).

Wagtail nest is compact but perfectly formed.

We had everything we needed, and when we were a bit lost, the owner was happy to give us further directions. He also popped by to say if there was anything to just let him know! There were treats in the property when we arrived which was really sweet, and it was very dog friendly.

The cottage was perfect and had everything we needed for our short break.

Paul met us on arrival and checked in to make sure everything was good. The location is perfect for exploring local areas, Robin Hoods Bay and Scarborough are just short drives away. We spent a day exploring the trails from the different parking areas on the side of the road, also highly recommend the walk down to Hayburn Wyke Waterfall. Lots of dog friendly pubs in the local villages to eat at. The cottage is cozy to come back to after a day walking. There was a little hamper on arrival including dog treats. And finally the hottub was the perfect end to a day exploring! We had a brilliant stay and will definitely return, thank you!

Lovely little place, but wasn't exactly clean in the bathroom.

Toothpaste still on the sink and pink bacteria and mould in the shower. And thick grime under the shower tap that wiped off easily. Dust webs a plenty in the open plan kitchen/frontroom, and the bedroom and the kitchen sink had an orange rim round it from the last person who had washed up. Had to clean all this before I could relax. The bed needs a new mattress as its like sleeping on a piece of plywood and didn't have a mattress protector on it. And the pillow protectors were stained/ needed a wash. Lovely place with lovely views, but just needs a proper clean between guests.

Lovely property with everything you could possibly need!

Brilliant location, comfortable bed, super clean, hot tub was wonderful and the secure garden was even small dog secure - no gaps! Lovely host who showed us around the property and made us feel welcome. Would stay here again and have already recommended to family. 10/10

Nice place, well presented, convenient and quiet location, the welcome pack was welcomed and an excellent host.

There is a paddock opposite for running dog(s) and a distance foot path along the adjacent fields for longer walks or morning and evening walks. Not a busy path. Location handy for trips to local villages and into Scarborough, Whitby (if travelling into Whitby by car, I recommend the park & ride bus service) and Filey (The Country park is a good place to run dogs, picnic and walk into Filey).

Lovely stay, enjoyed the hot tub and visits to Whitby and Scarborough.

I literally cant rate this place highly enough.

Everything we needed was there, everything was clean and tidy too. The welcome tray was a lovely touch and the hot tub, oh my goodness the hot tub was maaaarrrvellous. Paul knocked the door to introduce himself and answer any questions we may have had on the first evening but that was the last we saw of him. We could contact him should we have needed him but never did. It was quiet, peaceful and utterly wonderful. In the words of the poet and wise man Arnold Schwarzenegger, 'I'll be back'

I can't think of anything more to add to what we put in the visitor book except that it was the best location I could have wished for the welcome after we arrived was great and the treats for storm was very much appreciated as was the goodies and milk for the 2 legged visitor's Sharon couldn't get enough of the hot tub so with that in mind we will definitely be go back in the near future, thank you so much

Lovely relaxing stay.

Great host on a working farm. Never felt so relaxed on a holiday. Will definitely stay here again. I asked Paul (owner), if he has a fan we could borrow as it was 30 degrees on arrival. He went out his way to buy one there and then which was above and beyond!! Hot tub was incredible, I want one now lol. Only recommendation is to bring a mattress topper as the mattress is very firm (or was for us anyways). Thanks Paul. Keith, Lisa & Alfie.

Very close to many attractions,a beautiful area.Foxy our dog,enjoyed the wonderful walks,although she wasn’t sure about the sheep.The cottage was very comfortable,the hot tub was great after being out for most of the day. Made the most of the location and especially enjoyed our walks along the North & South bays at Scarborough. Met Paul a few times during our stay, nice guy who just lets you get on with your holiday. Will definitely stay here again when visiting North Yorkshire

Just got back and got post holiday blues after a wonderful stay at wagtail nest, greeted by Paul on arrival who was incredibly friendly.

When we entered the cottage we noticed they’d left a hamper out with treats for both us and the dogs which was a lovely touch. Cottage was very clean, organised and everything functioned as you’d expect, with the hot tub being a fantastic addition after a day of sightseeing. To put into context how amazing the owners are, I made a mistake with the booking only putting one dog on not two but they a still allowed us to bring both, thank you so very much, we had an outstanding time and will 110% be back!

Decorated beautifully. Was perfect for what we wanted. The welcome basket with treats including dog treats was a lovely gesture and the dog loved them! A very minor issue with the bin but was sorted immediately and professionally which was very much appreciated. Also appreciated the owner stopping by to make sure we were happy with everything. The kitchen utensils lacked ever so slightly in that couldn’t find scissors and there were no ‘normal’ glasses for drinks but it didn’t stop the holiday at all and that is me being super critical. The outside space was great and we would definitely come back!

We had the best weekend at Paul's cottage called Wagtail.

The cottage itself was gorgeous, so clean and i personally loved the decor with the old country feel! Its very dog friendly which puts your mind at ease. On arrival we had a welcome basket waiting for us with a few treats and even some dog treats for Ronnie. Paul came round and introduced himself and he was very easy to talk to and very friendly, he showed us some walking routes too! The hot tub was a added bonus and was so relaxing looking out over the fields, not one building in site just trees and wildlife. We spent both evenings out on the back in the hot tub and a few drinks. We didn't really see anyone only a few locals when waking it was so peaceful. A great base as well for if you are waiting to go and explore we visited Scarborough, robin hoods bay & Filey. We will definitely be recommending and returning!

We had such a wonderful stay at wagtail nest.

We took our 9 month old German Shepherd and the owners welcomed him with open arms. The property is cosy but spacious and in a very quiet area which is perfect for that tranquil relaxed stay, which is exactly what we wanted. The owners provided some treats for us and our dog which was very generous. The owners are very welcoming and friendly and provided their phone numbers in case there were any problems. All in all a brilliant place to stay and we would highly recommend!

We loved our time in Wagtail Nest.

Everything we needed was there. It's spotlessly clean with beautiful decor. A delicious hamper was waiting for us with dog treats too. Paul the host introduced himself and let us know he was nearby if we needed anything. We stayed from Friday to Monday in February, the weather was very kind to us so we enjoyed the many walks practically on the doorstep, we visited Scarborough and Dalby Forest. The hot tub was just what we needed at the end of the day. Plenty of room for the dog to have a wander in the enclosed garden by the hot tub or there's a paddock for them to have a bit more freedom. A delightful, peaceful place to stay and we would love to go back one day.

Unfortunately the boiler had broken so Paul the landlord moved us the The Nook. The Nook was beautiful and we were left a welcome pack full of goodies, which was beautiful and very kind. I would definitely recommend Paul and The Nook again and hope to book again this year 2024. Regards Bev & Tom

What a true gem this little cottage is.

Beautifully situated with far reaching views it images an ideal base for touring the North Yorks coastline. It is well equipped and very warm with every creature comfort including the most comfortable hot tub I have ever had the pleasure of using. We would most definitely recommend the cottage and will be booking again.

A well kept cottage in a superb location for visiting the North East Coast.

Some aspects of the cottage might benefit from a little tlc. For example the lid of the hot tub does not have a framework so is very difficult to take off and put back on. Also not all of the jets were working properly at first as one of the control valves appeared to be stuck although we did get it free. Suggest the tub is checked each week. Also there were lots of cobwebs in the lounge and bedroom. We appreciate that there will be some activity at this time of year but once we had got rid of what we could see, they didn't come back. The kitchen was well equipped unless you wanted to cook a 3 course dinner.

Everything was excellent-the only a couple of niggles we have was there we missed an arm chair as my partner had to sit on a dining chair due to the settee been low and soft as my partner suffers with back problems.

Also finding the cottage with the post code took us to the farm further down the road-this is quite stressful after a journey with a dog. Needs to have a sign on the gate or something noticable for future guests. Overall we had an excellent and relaxing time-great cottage and countryside for dog walks-the paddock is ideal for walking the dog early morning or late at night. Facilities are good and the bed comfortable. Paul was very friendly and always on the end of the phone. Appreciate the directions into Scarborough from Paul-was a lot easier. Welcome pack very good and the strawberry tarts in the fridge-thank you

Really enjoyed ourselves again. Lovely clean cottage with generous welcome basket. Bed slightly uncomfortable for us, but used our bed topper. Great hot tub, but lid is very heavy to move around. Great place for dogs especially the enclosed field at the side.

Wagtail Nest was a lovely well presented cottage in the perfect location for country walks or seaside days out and coastal walks, lots to do and see in the area.

A peaceful setting, loved the hot tub and a lovely welcome basket provided for our arrival with treats for us and our dog ted was an added bonus. There’s a field at the back where you can exercise your dog too! Perfect

Just one word "WONDERFUL" Wagtail's Nest is a little gem.

We had everything we needed for a perfect holiday and more.... spotlessly clean, comfortable, very well equipped and lovely décor. The welcome hamper was an added bonus as was the hot tub, especially after very long walks around this magical part of England. Needless to say we will definitely return!!!!!

Arrived to a lovely welcome basket of treats. We didn’t meet the host Paul as he was away, but he was lovely to be in touch by phone. Couldn’t fault the cottage & in a great location to visit loads of places (so many great places not a far drive, either on the coast or the countryside). As we have visited surrounding area before we wanted to be somewhere where we could go without driving & had some fab walks on our doorstep, only complaint was the hills lol!! Nice little local shop up the road, highly recommend the local made cider. Hot tub was bliss after end of long walks. Thanks for a fab break.

We had an amazing time, it was everything and more than we expected.

The cottage was incredibly clean and smelled reaaly fresh, you would never know that pets had stayed. The welcome pack was a really lovely touch. Absolutely loved the ice making machine. Paul was there when you needed him and a really nice person. Just the sounds of birds, sheep and the occasional tractor, pure heaven, thank you. Maybe a non slip mat to go in the fantastic shower?

. this was the best cottage we’ve stopped in by far .. from owner greeting us , welcome pack for us and the dog, the use of the paddock for dig walking if we didn’t want to venture out . Public footpath next to the cottage and Scarborough , waterfalls and the sea literally 15 minute drive away.. will definitely be coming back

Lovely comfortable cottage in a quiet setting.

The hot tub was just lovely to relax in on an evening. There is now a freezer compartment in the fridge which was a bonus. Owner very helpful and welcoming but not intrusive at all. Dog also made very welcome.

Perfect for exploring the North Yorkshire Coast. Some lovely dog friendly pubs with a short drive. We had a fab welcome from the owners. The directions could have been a little clearer, as we arrived around 10pm and struggled to find the address in the dark. The only thing we’d suggest in terms of improvement would be a new mattress, it would make a huge difference :) But overall loved our stay!

What a fantastic cottage!

It is so homey and we both loved our stay here. It was perfect with our dog, and ideal to get to a lot of local attractions. The views and sunsets from the back window are wonderful and the hot tub in the evenings was a real treat. The only downside was not having a freezer. I would thoroughly recommend this wonderful, welcoming cottage for walkers and beach goers alike. It's super easy and quick to get into Scalby with pubs and a welcoming local church, and not far at all to Scarborough and Whitby. It exceeded all our expectations and the dog treats and welcome basket on arrival was an even bigger bonus!

What a fantastic break we had here.

A very warm welcome to a very clean accommodation. A welcome pack not only for us but for our dog as well. Perfectly situated for us, out of the hustle bustle but within a short distance to commute. Benson and myself loved exploring on our walks. Then at the end of the day my wife and I enjoyed relaxing in the hot tub. An absolute brilliant week. Already looking to book for next year.

Dog friendly too. Loved the welcome basket (and so did the dogs). Would highly recommend. Thank you, was just what we needed.

Lovely cottage but could do with a fridge with a freezer in it also couldn’t find a colander in the kitchen and step into bathroom wasn’t noticed straight away!

Hot tub brilliant but needs another stepping stone to avoid walking on gravel in bare feet near the door for little legs! But would definitely visit again!

When host not available, information pack with details of cottage facilities (hot tub etc), local facilities, nearest pub, shops and local walks would be useful.

No Wi-Fi available for 2 days, couldn't find router.

If you want peace and tranquility this is the place to be. Beautiful countryside area a good hot tub to relax in after your days out will definitely recommend.

Our holiday had to be cancelled twice due to covid but we finally made it and it was worth the wait ,the cottage was lovely and quiet and the hot tub was a great way to end your nights, the owner left a welcome pack which was a nice touch and was very helpful when we had a problem ,Paul was on hand and sorted it very promptly, we will definitely return in the near future .

Beautiful little cottage in beautiful surroundings.

Extremely clean. Surprised no hairdryer provided but not a big problem. Only other minor issue is the lid of the hot tub is very heavy and awkward to lift on and off. Would definitely recommend this place though and will be looking to return for another short break next year.

Just perfect in every way

One of the best places I've been too loved it, booked again for November already.

We had a wonderful stay at Swallows Nest.

Perfect location for visiting the East Coast. The little cottage is very homely and welcoming. It was very clean and Paul the owner had left some welcome treats which we thoroughly enjoyed. Including some for Bailey the dog. The hot tub was amazing, perfect to warm up in each evening after our walks. The bed was very comfy. The only thing we couldn't find was a hairdryer. We will certainly be looking at booking Swallows Nest in the future and recommending it to friends and family. :-)

Lovely and clean had everything we needed

This cottage doesn`t feel like a holiday let, it really is a home from home!

The cottage and hot tub were spotlessly clean. The decor and furnishings are of an excellent standard and the cottage is very well equipped for two people. The bed is very comfortable and the shower is fab. There isn`t one thing we disliked about this place. The owner was friendly and we very much appreciated the lovely treats he left for us.

We spent the second part of our honeymoon at this wonderful cottage.

It really did have everything you needed and the added surprise of Netflix which we loved! We made use of the hot tub three times a day and loved how peaceful and tranquil the location was, but superbly located to access lots of local days out. We really would recommend a break at this cottage.

The cottage was absolutely fabulous and we would highly recommend it. It was the most relaxing week we have had we hopefully will go again and dogs are welcome and would love the walks they can go on around the cottage.

Friendly host Paul, greeted with welcome treats. Cottage clean, well equipped and tasteful decor. WiFi & Netflix a bonus and the hot tub was a perfect wind down on an evening listening to the local owls. Good location for exploring the North Yorkshire coast so lots of lovely walks nearby. Very dog friendly, doggy welcome treats went down well. Definitely recommend, will return here for sure.

Fantastic little get away for my partner and I.

Paul very kindly greeted us with some ‘treats’ to settle in. You could see from the reviews on here the alterations they have made such as putting up hooks by the hot tub, putting up mirrors in the bedroom & providing a clothes airer especially for swimwear after the hot tub. Only thing we found we hadn’t brought was a hairdryer and there wasn’t one at the property so we ‘drip dried’ the dog and I. Overall would definitely recommend it and will be back again the hot tub was perfect.

Lovely cosy peaceful and relaxing cottage for us it was too remote you have to jump in the car wherever you want to go which is what lots of people enjoy, but when I go away I like to dump the car and be within walking distance of the cinder track that’s just me.

A clothes airer at the cottage would be a good idea to pop in the shower to let swimwear drip dry. New tin opener required ,toilet seat still needs fixing.a canopy over the hot tub would be lovely and a little more enclosed garden area would be good only little niggles but overall a great stay nothing and no ones perfect.

Swallow's Nest was perfect for us, lovely and clean, bed was so comfortable, the hot tub was good quality, in an excellent position.

Anyone hesitant about venturing away due to pandemic , do not be. Felt 100% safe, ventured to Whitby purposely on the rainy day to avoid crowds and spent 5 days doing things on our own in the open air. Perfect mini break.

Marked down on comfort because the bed was uncomfortable.

May have benefited from a small freezer (as a self catering cottage we took food and ice blocks which then melted), dishwasher and black out curtains for bedroom. Hot tub and location were great and the overall cottage was a nice cosy quality conversion.

Lovely little holiday cottage in a great area for exploring the coast and inland.

Set on a very quiet road with easy safe parking. Small but well secured garden for our dog. Very grateful for the treats left by the owner the dog treats were especially welcome! The hot tub was lovely & large and great for relaxing in after a day out and great for stargazing! The kitchen had everything we needed and was spotless. Comfy leather sofa. The cottage was always warm and the heating was easy to alter. The cottage was ample for 2 and well laid out. The shower room was really nice & had a fab shower. Our only minor negatives were it could do with somewhere to put shampoo and shower gel whilst in the shower also a small clothes airer to hang wet cozzie/trunks to dry inside the cubicle if it was raining. No hairdryer (but not sure if missing due to Covid rules) A full length mirror and small coffee table would be a nice addition. We prefer a memory foam mattress so did find the bed a bit 'springy'. Overall a lovely holiday cottage, in a pretty and quiet area at a great price would definitely recommend.

The stay was wonderful.

Lovley cosy cottage with really nice decor detail which carried through the house. The facilities were great, they had all the cutlery and appliances we needed in the kitchen. The only suggestions I would make is to provide a hair dryer and a bigger mirror, for makeup and to see full outfit. The hot tub was lovley, it was so cosy and peaceful. Really enjoyed my stay here.

Shallows Nest is a lovely place to base yourself for a tour of the Yorkshire moors and coastline .

You really need a car as its a little remote but for most people visiting the area that's a prerequisite. The cottage is cosy and quiet well maintained and pleasantly decorated. Good off road parking . A good number of farm shops and honesty tables to be found close by but only ten minutes to a well stocked super market for the pizzas . The host was extremely welcoming and friendly, always happy to chat without being constantly around . All in all a marvellous place to stay and perfect to tumble back to after a busy day exploring.

a week .or weekend. Its a lovely quite place .But your not far from costal places.. The cottage has a lovely living area .Bathroom..and Bedroom. All on one level . Also a hot tub that was perfect to relax after days out .. The cottage is very clean and modern .Its just perfect .its so cosy you won't want to leave . Paul the owner is very welcoming. And helpful.. Plus everywhere is very dog friendly. My chocky lab loved it .there are some lovely walks . If your looking for relaxing break this is perfect place .. We loved it that much were booked to return.

The cottage is very clean and comfortable and has everything you need. The location is perfect for getting to Whitby, Scarborough, Filey etc. The hot tub was brilliant, perfect way to end each day in gorgeous surroundings filled with wildlife.

Me my husband and puppy went for 3 nights to celebrate our 2nd wedding anniversary. As soon as we walked in it was WOW so beautiful, peaceful and clean! Even little presents left for us and our pooch!!! Hot tub was a big + for me

Picky feedback would be - plz fix toilet seat and provide more loo roll, we would also welcome a blind on the front door for toing and froing from the shower. Nothing spoilt this trip though.
