June “We stayed as a multi-generational family group for a birthday weekend.”
Everything was perfect. Anything we could have wanted or needed was available at the house. Even though we were only there for a couple of nights it felt like 'home'. The Aga was great and kept the house warm and cosy. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and have some lovely memories made there.

Helen “Station house is a lovely stay for a mixed family group.”
All details were accurate. Spotlessly clean. Fresh bread and cakes were delightful. Good communication with pippa. A very memorable weekend.

Jenny “We were originally to be a party of ten, but half the party weren’t able to go due to work commitments.”
5 of us stayed, we had a wonderful week, the cottage is beautiful, finished to a high standard, quality furnishings ( the pillows are the best I’ve ever slept on!) everything was thought of, even towels and bowls for the dog! We are looking to book again in spring/ summer when we can hopefully all go, including my granddaughters. We have also stayed next door a few years ago ( ticket office) which is owned by the same people and found that to be the same standard. highly recommended and will definitely be back.

Blaithe “We had an amazing time staying at this house during the October half term.”
With 8 adults and 4 kids, there was plenty of room for everyone. The beds and pillows were incredibly comfortable, ensuring a good night’s sleep for all of us. The kids were thrilled to have their own room where they could watch films and play games. One of the highlights was the location right by the train station. We enjoyed watching the trains go by throughout the day, especially the steam trains, which the kids absolutely loved. The house itself was huge, providing ample space for our large group. The parking was great, and the location was perfect. We also enjoyed the pub across the road, which had a fantastic atmosphere. Overall, this was a gem of a find, and we would definitely stay here again. Highly recommended!
- Blaithe, October 2024So pleased you enjoyed your stay and the trains passing by! Thank you for your positive comments. Property Owner

Colin “Great property loads of room perfect for large families i think the garden could do with a little tlc.”
We have been 3 times and the garden area has not been updated or maintained ! But you cant fault the whole property it lovely and spotless and the welcome pack is 1st class.

Richard “This is a comfortable and well equipped house in a great location.”
There is a very nice pub opposite, and Whitby is an easy walk or bus/train/taxi ride away. Being able to run out of the house and wave at the passing steam trains was an extra special bonus.

Susan “This house had everything needed for our holiday and more !”
! Spotlessly clean, very comfortable beds and ensuite shower/bathrooms that were small but perfectly formed. From the minute we walked in to the smell of baking bread and the welcome pack to the minute we left to come home we felt relaxed in this house. Seeing the trains go past our front window was an added bonus. The enclosed courtyard gardens were just right for our grandsons to run around it. Enjoyed a Sunday lunch st the Bridge Inn opposite. Thank you Pippa and Graham.

Christine “We loved our stay in the station house , location was fabulous.”
Some of the group who needed to use the top floor , were unhappy climbing in and out of the beds , and feel they should only be advertised as children's rooms . One couple had to buy a stool to reach the wardrobe to hang up clothes . Patio doors in the lounge would not open . The patio garden was very dissapionting , could have been lovely with a little TLC .Nice weather whilst we were there , but didn't feel we wanted to sit out in that area , although that area had the most sun ! Paving all needed weeding , furniture needs replacing ( dirty and old ) few pots with live flowers would be nice , really let the house down . Yes
- Christine, May 2024Pleased you enjoyed your stay but sorry that you were disappointed with the patio garden - the continual wet weather has made it difficult to tidy up, but it has now been sorted etc. Not sure why you couldn’t open the patio doors as we opened them easily on the change over! No one has ever commented on the top floor beds before but sorry they didn’t suit you. Property Owner

Patricia Mary “The Station House is the perfect place for a family holiday.”
The facilities are excellent, with attention to detail and a welcoming atmosphere ... a freshly baked loaf included! Ruswarp is a beautiful village with activities close by to suit everyone and quick and easy access to the coast. This has been our second stay and I am certain that it will not be our last.

Stella “Absolutely gorgeous house with everything you need, we stayed here for a week ...”
Absolutely gorgeous house with everything you need, we stayed here for a week with 8 adults and 3 children age range 10-76 the house had enough cutlery pots pans and more for all of us, there was nothing more we needed, lovely accommodation, excellent location, enough parking for our 3 cars, we had a perfect week with our extended family, made lots of memories,
- Stella, February 2024 -
Molly “Fantastic place to stay.”
All the amenities you could ever want. Loved using the Aga & the bath was lush.

Lorna “Station House is a lovely, well-equipped property in a great location.”
We were provided with everything we needed for a comfortable and enjoyable stay. The large dining room was perfect for our group and we also appreciated the fact that there were two large sitting rooms. The occasional passing steam train provided much excitement!
- Lorna, December 2023 -
Fiona “The property was absolutely marvellous - it be of the best places we’ve ever rented ( and we’ve been to quite a few as a family) - clean, warm and very well equipped especially for a keen cook !”
The Bridge Inn was a bonus!! Whitby is a lovely place with great people and we will be back !
- Fiona, December 2023 -
Andrea “We really enjoyed our stay at this beautiful house.”
We wanted for nothing, everything we needed was provided. A quant lovely property, my grandchildren loved watching the trains stopping at the station or the steam trains passing through. A lovely little village with just a short walk to whitby & a large play area just 5-10 walk. We certainly would recommend this property. ☺️
- Andrea, October 2023 -
Fiona “We thought everything was excellent.”
No complaints at all. Thank you.
- Fiona, October 2023 -
Mary “Perfect location for our requirements, peaceful and tranquil.”
. the sound of the occasional train passing the platform, especially the steam train, made you feel like you were part of the railway children. The property was spacious and well equipped especially the kitchen. Bedrooms were easily accessible, although there were 2 stories to the property .. the first staircase was manageable for some of our group with medical issues. Beds were extremely comfortable and plenty of bathrooms. Our group was ‘ladies only’ and the 2 separate sitting rooms proved beneficial for ‘quiet time’ for some… there is a well stocked cupboard of games and jigsaws which were well used. Thankyou fir a wonderful week… which ended with Storm Biddi Wow.. what an experience…
- Mary, October 2023 -
Sarah “The Station House is a property full of character.”
The location is perfect for exploring this beautiful area both inland and the coast. With the added bonus of being able to walk into Whitby and also both train and bus services available from the village, Ruswarp makes travel accessible for all. The property has everything you will need for a lovely stay.
- Sarah, September 2023 -
Colin “2rd time at the station house !”
Just booked for the 3rd time in 2024 It's just a great place so homely it has everything we need for our family holiday The kids just love it ! And my dogs a safe in the court yard area's. So local to the local amenities and walking distance to whitby. We would all like to say thank you to Pipa for having a lovely house to rent !
- Colin, July 2023 -
Caroline “What a delight Station House at Ruswarp is.”
As a mixed bag of family, friends and a dog we had no complaints at all. ( We were able to share bathrooms out so that each couple or friends had their own facilities, though the two friends using the upper floor had to go all the way to the downstairs shower room, so for some it might prove to be more of an issue?!) With two comfortable lounge areas and two outside spaces there was plenty of relaxation space. The whole house was tastefully decorated. The bedrooms were very comfortable. There was a fully stocked kitchen with lots of pots and crocks and cutlery. The internet was strongest in the dining room. My husband says not to forget to mention the addiction of the trains and the delightful walks in the area. I must also give a shout out for the fantastic butchers five minutes up the road, which also has a deli counter and bakery. I would certainly recommend this excellent house.
- Caroline, June 2023 -
Helena “We had a tremendous week in The Station House.”
It met, and in places exceeded, our expectations.
- Helena, May 2023 -
David “Beautiful home.”
Spotlessly clean. Thank you. Every detail thought of - Dog towels, beach toys. Oh the Aga! We all enjoyed the pictures and ornaments. So much charm. We felt like guests of royalty. Beds were amazing. Each of us enjoyed a perfect night's sleep throughout the week. Lovely prompt response from owner when reporting a the ground floor shower. Turns out it was our operational error. Daily treats of steam trains were amazing. We were all surprised by how little noise there was. A perfect week, in perfect location in a perfect home. Made wonderful multigenerational memories.

Builders working just off the drive made getting out a bit of a challenge

Absolutely loved it and all of our needs were catered for. Lovely Christmas tree put up. Would highly recommend

Sharon “A beautifully decorated and well maintained property in an ideal location.”
Easy walk/ short train ride into Whitby. All the family enjoyed the short break.
- Sharon, November 2022 -
Elizabeth “The house as a whole was roomy, comfortable, and well furnished.”
The main bedrooms on the first floor were comfortable and well appointed with en-suite facilities. The top floor single bedrooms were very small. In fact once the pull out beds were in use it was impossible to get passed or move about. Plus the ceiling’s, with wooden beams forming an arch, made it rather hazardous in the dark. The owners were very approachable and quickly had our tap fixed that was leaking. We all loved the house and it’s position apart from the top floor bedrooms.
- Elizabeth, October 2022 -
Vivien “Fabulous break with friends in a beautiful house.”
The property is amazing and loved the aga. Nice flat walk into Whitby. Unfortunately the local pub was closed for refurbishment but that didn’t make the stay any less memorable. Fantastic hosts very informative and obliging. Highly recommend.
- Vivien, September 2022 -
Beth “Great property location.”
This is the second time we have stayed at Station Cottage. Lots of space as there 7 adults, 4 children and a baby! The local amenities are great and the walk alongside the railway track into Whitby is lovely. Ideal place to stay with the family.
- Beth, August 2022 -
Robert “We were coming with seven adults a n three children plus a dog, two adults and the dog did not come.”
we all consider that the facilities would have been hard pressed to comfortably house us all, so feel it is misleadingly advertised as 'sleeps 11'. Having to leave at 9.30am was too early for such a large party to leave the property tidy and not have to obstesibly have reduced the holiday by a day.
- Robert, August 2022Thank you for your comments and hope you enjoyed your stay . Two of the beds are pull out beds, as clearly stated in the details and usually used by children. No one before has ever commented that the facilities have not been enough for a ‘full house’ as there are two large sitting rooms and four bathrooms/en-suites. Unfortunately, we do need the departure to be 9.30am, to enable us to turn the property around, disinfect and thoroughly clean for the next guests arriving in from 3pm. Property Owner

David “Beautifully appointed property, ideal location and included everything we needed.”
The owners are clearly proud of their property and rightly so. We thoroughly enjoyed our time there, would love to return some time in the future.
- David, July 2022 -
Kim “We had a wonderful stay at the Station House.”
The house was fully equipped and in a great location with Whitby being either a 5 minute drive or 30 minute walk away. It was also really useful having it just a short drive away from the supermarkets. You don’t really notice the trains other than the steam engines which we all really enjoyed watching go by. We loved the layout and the design of the house, the clocks could be quite loud (especially in the evenings) but that wasn’t a big deal it just managed to make us all jump! We unfortunately didn’t get a chance to try out the food at the pub as they weren’t serving food until a few days after we left. There was also some building work going on to a property not attached but we barely noticed them, only when we were outside during the day. Overall, I would highly recommend a stay here.
- Kim, July 2022 -
Colin “Awesome property no Beautiful property we all loved it even our pets loved the court yards to play in !”
Everything was perfect the owners have thought of Everything , even down to a welcome pack of cakes and bread . We can not praise the owners enough! We were all wanting to rebook as we walked out the door for the last time, we sat on the wall not wanting to leave! It made one of our best holidays ever ! The very best Colin & Carol

Colin “Great location and property, Pub opposite is good for food too if you don’t want to cook.”

Diane “Beautiful listed building on the side of the railway tracks… trains into Whitby if the walk is too much.”
Walk is only about half an hour along the side of the tracks. The interior is spotlessly clean and well furnished in keeping with the age of the property but all mod cons provided. Parking is a little tight but manageable for two cars. There are two lovely courtyards to sit in and both are secluded and sun traps. The AGA was something we had not used before but turned out to be a real boon. The welcome pack was very generous and of excellent quality, thank you. We were a group of six plus a dog and we all enjoyed our stay immensely. The Bridge Inn across the road serves excellent food and has a beer garden where you can sit and watch the trains. The butcher up the road is brilliant for cooked meats, pies, bread as well as meat: good selection, excellent quality and reasonable price. Overall we were very impressed and had a great time.
- Diane, June 2022 -
Christopher “Lovely property.”
..have stayed before so knew it would be right for our family .comfortable and plenty of room to relax .As the male members in the family are train fans this was a treat for them.Easy walk to centre of Whitby plenty to do for all ages and then back to the house for relaxing and winding down the day a good night's sleep and ready to go again ...We will be back in the future .
- Christopher, June 2022 -
Roy “Wonderful property very clean throughout, we thought we could smell bread cooking and what a lovely surprise to find the owner had left a loaf baking.”
We booked it for our golden wedding anniversary and were not disappointed in any way. Thank you.

Alison “Extremely comfortable house with everything we needed - just lovely.”
- Alison, April 2022 -
Helen “We very much enjoyed our stay at Station House, it was clean, well equipped, and very comfortable, we especially liked the kitchen with the arga.”
The location was good we walked along the side of the railway track in to Whitby taking around 30mins. We also used the train and the bus route was excellent around 9mins to resort. The only small drawback was lack of a toilet on the third floor but not great problem really. I would certainly recommend the property as excellent for a family holiday.
- Helen, April 2022 -
Ray “The Station House was everything we wanted.”
Clean, tidy, and well equipped and organised in the kitchen. It was a nice surprise to find a freshly baked loaf of bread and a welcome tray when we arrived. Everything is well-thought and the house-keeping is to the highest standard. Compared to the other wonderful Sykes Cottage houses we’ve been so far the Station house stands out as the best stocked/supplied with cleaning stuff, tea-towels and cutlery. In addition, the cottage is very well located and the house has two pretty gardens. Thank you for keeping the Station house in such a good condition.
- Ray, March 2022 -
Lauren “Went here with extended family and honestly one of the best holidays we ever had!”
We went in March so a lot of the things around where closed but the house was so nice we didn’t want to leave it anyway!
- Lauren, March 2022 -
Denise “It would have been good to have a hosepipe in the garden to clean the dog after a muddy walk”
- Denise, February 2022 -
Catherine “Fabulous short break in the Station House.”
Very high standard of cleanliness and comfort throughout - thoroughly enjoyed it!
- Catherine, January 2022 -
David “An excellent week away with our family, the station house in Ruswarp was absolutely superb and had such a warm feeling as you entered with the aga.”
We found the local pub warm and very friendly and the local butchers where we pre ordered our Christmas meat were excellent. The easy walk by the side of the railway and river to Whitby took 30 minutes only, just right for us 70+. Mrs Jones tip regarding the cooking of the turkey was spot on
- David, December 2021 -
Tom “Amazing property.”
Loads of hanging out space and a well appointed kitchen. We moved a bed down stairs into a spare dining room near a bathroom for an elderly relative, which was perfect. Amazing outside space for dogs (summer or winter). Would definitely stay again. Only little critic was the double doors in living room tricky to open but other than that perfect. Half hour walk to Whitby
- Tom, November 2021 -
Lisa “A brilliant location in a lovely friendly village, with the bonus of trains outside your window!”
We booked this house for a family holiday for 7 adults and two dogs. It was spotlessly clean and well equipped. The layout is fun, lots of space to spread out. There's an easy, level walk into the centre of Whitby from outside the house along the gorgeous Esk valley, between the river and the railway. (It's more like 30 minutes than 20). Ruswarp is delightful, don't miss the rowing boats, Jackson's the butcher and the little village shop. And the ladies we spoke to about the key etc were really friendly and welcoming. Minor things we didn't spot before we booked (might be important to someone else). --*Parking is tight and you share it with visitors to the little rental next door. *The only outside space is two paved courtyard areas, partly shaded, but very secure and private. *And I'm afraid I have to agree with other reviewers about the four poster. It was quite hard. Everyone else said their beds were really comfy though. Finally, don't let the thought of trains passing outside the window put you off, the house was surprisingly quiet. They're mostly gone before you notice. However the steam trains do exactly what you'd expect: there's a lot of steam and puffing and it's brilliant.
- Lisa, September 2021 -
Tony “Before going I had noticed a couple of bad comments about this cottage but I can only speak as I find.”
Our party was made up of 7 adults and 2 dogs, I was still unloading the van when I was thanked for booking the place and within minutes of looking around myself it was clear that I had made the right choice. It’s quirky, full of character as you would expect from a period building but most of all it is comfortable and welcoming. If the only thing that we found awkward was that some of the taps operate differently to those at home, then I can’t complain. I know some people love to complain, it gives them a sense of superiority I guess, we embraced it and loved it. Put all of the above into the perfect location, add in your best friends and you get life long memories.
- Tony, September 2021 -
Jenny “All excellent, comfort, position, helpfulness of owner, spaces for mucky boots and drying area, parking, well kitted out kitchen, your own private gate on to the platform.”
...... If I was REALLY picky, the showers were a bit hit and miss but we all managed to stay clean so not a big problem. Would definitely recommend.
- Jenny, September 2021 -
Rachel “What a lovely place to stay.”
The house is really big, everywhere you turn there are more doors and rooms. Really comfortable. The only exception was the master bedroom, the bed was very uncomfortable. Everything else was great. I have to say though that we will not be returning, the only reason, I have looked at the cost for next year and it is almost 3 times the price for next summer holidays…..so I have booked to go abroad instead. When it costs £3700 to go here self catering or to go abroad for £4100 then there is no contest. It is just pure greed.
- Rachel, August 2021 -
Kerry “As a family of steam train enthusiasts the Station house was above our expectations.”
They was plenty of room for all our family of 10 and I also really enjoyed using the AGA. We enjoyed having the gate straight onto the platform to watch all the steam trains going past. We slept in the four posterbed which I found extremely uncomfortable and struggled to get much sleep as did my husband. I have back and joint problems which where made much worse and even my husband who has no problems was waking up with a bad back. Think the mattress needs replacing.
- Kerry, August 2021Many thanks for staying with us at The Station House, we're so glad to hear that you enjoyed your experience. We are sorry to hear that you did not find the bed comfortable, it was purchased early last year and is on the firm side. We have now purchased a memory foam mattress topper. Property Owner

Janet “Everything about the place was perfect the fact that the tv had Netflix and Amazon prime video was an excellent added bonus.”
My only conplaint was about the bed. We stayed in the room with the four poster bed and did not have one nights comfortable sleep for either me or my husband. I suffer with a bad back anyway and this was made worse by this bed my husband who does not have a bad back was also complaining of backache every morning as a result of this we were up early every morning and bed late. The mattress was very lumpy and uncomfortable and very hard and very noisy. It is the worst bed we have every slept in. Apart from that the holiday cottage was perfect. The welcoming tea tray was nice and the area was quiet just what we wanted. Added bonus of seeing the steam trains passing was also a bonus. Would definitely stay again and recommend
- Janet, July 2021 -
Christine “Beautiful place to stay, we would love to return .”
- Christine, June 2021 -
Laura “Super cottage which was amazingly well equipped and very clean.”
The only things missing were a sieve and a whisk but those were very minor inconveniences! The location was really good - so nice to be able to walk into Whitby using the permissive path alongside the railway line (we did it with a pram several times). Just a pity the weather wasn't better - but that's to be expected in the UK in May.
- Laura, May 2021 -
Chris “Fantastic house and location.”
Very peaceful despite the odd train which added to the experience. The house was very comfortable, with lots of space for our kids, and the owner had thought of everything. Also loved the Aga and woodburner. Lovely walk into Whitby and rowing and kayaking just up the river. A very relaxing break.
- Chris, April 2021 -
Neil “This is a truly gorgeous house set close to Whitby.”
The quality of furnishings, linen etc was fabulous. We really enjoyed our stay there, unfortunately the local butcher was shut as they had had a confirmed case of COVID but shops in Whitby ticked the boxes.
- Neil, October 2020 -
Anita “The location was amazing and didn't disappoint one bit, the NYMR steam train passing was such a treat.”
If you don't like trains do not stay here :) The property was very clean, tidy and extremely comfortable. There were only 3 of us so we had an enormous amount of space, but even if it were full it would still be super spacious. The kitchen was so well stocked with all necessary cooking and entertaining equipment we could have needed, we were very impressed all round. Even though it is a house that welcomes dogs, there was no evidence that this was this case (we had a spaniel so also hope we left no trace)! We could not fault a thing in the entire property and will definitely recommend it and we hope to return. We met one of the cleaning ladies as she was cleaning next door and it was so reassuring to hear that the owner of the house is very meticulous when it comes to cleaning etc and this was more than evident. A perfectly great week thank you!
- Anita, September 2020 -
Chris “Excellent accommodation!”
Spacious, comfortable, beautifully furnished and in very good, clean condition. We were a family party of 9 with an age range of 6 to 70 and everybody loved the house and its location. Ruswarp is a lovely village and its closeness to Whitby along ann easy footpath was an added bonus. We would definitely make a return visit.
- Chris, August 2020 -
Christine “The Station House Is situated in a lovely place .”
The house it’s self is very comfortable and homely very clean and everything you could need it was like living in your own home very comfortable for a famliy holiday. The Bridge Inn is highly recommend the landlord and his wife are lovely the food superb and also highly recommend the butchers up the road , and about 10 mins by car to Whitby 20 mins to walk .lots of lovely walks and beaches near by .Also not forgetting the trains and your very own platform, the whole week was very nice . Thankyou very much will certainly recommend to friends .
- Christine, July 2020 -
Catherine “What a fabulous house.”
Would highly recommend. 10 out of 10. Just two points to note, the radiator in the downstairs shower room wasn't working and the third step up on the top staircase is a bit iffy. Everything else was perfect.
- Catherine, March 2020 -
Terence “The Station House was fantastic and in a great location.”
Plenty of room for the 10 of us,and every room was clean and furnished beautifully. We will book again !

Sarah “What a wonderful place to stay!”
From the moment we walked through the door we felt at home. We stayed with our young children and their grandparents for October Half term week. We’ve never stayed somewhere so well equipped; there was nothing we needed that was not there! When we arrived there was a lovely tea tray set up and a loaf of bread baking ready for dinner. The Aga is a lovely feature and we cooked most of our meals on it, was also handy for drying out the wet wellies and coats too! The whole house is beautifully furnished and in keeping with the character of the house. The beds are very comfortable and there is an abundance of pillows, cushions and throws. The children loved sleeping up in the attic space, with a single room each and sky lights looking at the railway; the double bedroom up there is so cosy too! The master bedroom is beautifully done out and there are plenty of toilets and showers! The diesel and steam trains coming past the house kept the children (and the adults!) entertained and would have them rushing to the window to wave. The walk along the railway to Whitby is lovely, very flat and takes only 20 - 30 minutes. The butchers in the village does beautiful sausages and bacon sandwiches and we tried one of their pork pies for tea one evening which didn’t disappoint!!! Overall a really lovely place to stay, especially for a family of several generations!
- Sarah, October 2019 -
Jan “Excellent week enjoyed by all.”
We were party of 7, plus dog, and never tired of watching and waving to passing trains. The local butchers is all it is made out to be and walks into Whitby were enjoyable and easy. The pub across the road was a bonus- no need to ring to say dinner is ready, just wave out of the kitchen window. The facilities are comfortable and only comment is that dining room is 'snug'.
- Jan, October 2019 -
Claire “The cottage was amazing and would definitely go back with the family.”
Cooking on the Aga was fun, if somewhat challenging but there was also a traditional cooker available. The two sitting rooms were great, one for family noise and one for quiet times if necessary. The only negative is the lack of accessible sockets in the bedrooms (sockets on a wall where beds were pushed up against them) but that could be solved if a long extension lead was provided. We had a dishwasher problem which was resolved the same day (washing dishes for 10 is a lot of dishes!) so couldn’t fault the owner. Overall a beautiful home in a lovely village.

Chris “No everything was fine, we had a great time.”

Barbara “We stayed at the Station Masters House as a family for a celebration holiday for a special birthday.”
The house exceeded our expectations, very quaint , kitchen very warm with the AGA at this time of the year. Very clean and very nicely furnished and well equipped. High standard throughout. Excellent location with trains outside, Whitby in walking distance and the model railway a bonus. We had the children’s play park up our sleeves for a rainy day. The local pub , the Bridge Inn is brilliant. Good Traditional Fayre and friendly staff with an outside area where the trains can be viewed on their way to Pickering and Whitby. The ladies of the group did a Twilight spa at Raithwaite Hall which is just up the road from Whitby. An excellent location with paths, rail and bus so your car does not need to move at all. The house is solid built and as such Wi-fi connection is brilliant downstairs but variable upstairs. The courtyard areas are safe for children and dogs and a sun lounger would have been a nice addition. The welcome tea tray and bread were very nice touches. We all left wanting more of both the house and the area.

John “This is an excellent property for a large group.”
Although out of Whitby itself, Ruswarp has a lot to recommend itself, and the walk into Whitby alongside the Railway is easy and enjoyable. The property is very well equipped for a large party and very comfortable. Would not hesitate to recommend it.
- John, April 2019 -
Patricia Mary “This property is an absolute delight.”
It is very comfortable, incredibly well equipped, even including cutlery for toddlers. A freshly baked loaf was ready when we arrived, and the whole family enjoyed relaxing evenings in the cosy lounges. Of course, a highlight for young and old was watching the steam trains go by. We fully intend to visit again!
- Patricia Mary, April 2019 -
Pamela “This house was amazing.”
Plenty of comfortable space, spotlessly clean & very well equipped with good quality items. Everything we needed for a large family break together. Easy access into Whitby, either walking, busses or the train all in close distance. The grand daughter loved waving to the trains and enjoyed the local monsterz play area.
- Pamela, March 2019 -
John “We had a thoroughly enjoyable stay.”
The cottage was well located and a lovely short walk into Whitby. Comfortable accommodation and we liked the Aga and the log burner. All bedrooms well appointed and ready made beds were a bonus. A good games cupboard with jigsaws and games. Would certainly recommend it

Gary “I can highly recommend the station house at Ruswarp, the house is amazing, very comfortable, warm, very very well equipped, there was even a fresh loaf of bread baking for us when we arrived,we spent a week there with kids and grandkids for a family birthday, ten of us in total and there was plenty of room for all of us,the grandkids loved looking for the trains, which weren't at all intrusive.”
Ruswarp is a lovely little village with a great butchers shop and a very welcoming pub,the bridge Inn. Whitby is in easy 20 minutes walk from the station house and Robin hood's bay and Scarborough a short car ride away all in all a brilliant house to stay in,we are all hoping to go back there in the future as we all loved it so much.
- Gary, January 2019 -
Sarah “This is a wonderful holiday accommodation for a large group.”
The decor is lovely, the aga a comforting warmth and the kitchen really well equipped for social dining at hom
- Sarah, December 2018 -
Rebecca “We had a fabulous weekend at the station house in Whitby, the house was stunning and plenty of room for all 11 of us (8 adults 3 children (ages 1,3&6).”
It was a shame we was only there for the weekend I could have stayed forever! The house was so close to Whitby and driving distance to Scarborough. The house had everything you needed. Mrs Jones is lovely and I cannot recommend this place enough.
- Rebecca, December 2018 -
Caroline “The owners had thought of everything that you would need for a self catering holiday.”
It was such a warm friendly house, with lots of space, so you didn't have to be together if you didn't want too. Never used an aga before, it was easy to use, only charred the lemon meringue pie!! On our first night we didn't have any hot water, contacted Mr Jones and that was sorted out the next day, he was really helpful. Ideal stay if you like walking, as you could go on the flat straight to Whitby or if you fancy a challenge take the path past the butchers and its a hillier route. Butchers shop in the village had lots too choose from and very helpful. Little Monsters was down the road and that was a great indoor play area for the kids.
- Caroline, October 2018 -
Mary “The house was really well stocked with all the things you need to start your holiday, the accommodation itself was brilliant, and so well furnished.”
There where minor things like the back door would not open fully, the courtyard could have been cleaner for the children to play in, these are minor things but on the whole we loved the place, it was a dream for the children and the adults who love trains. The location was brilliant and the short walk to Whitby was a bonus as we did not have to take the cars.
- Mary, August 2018 -
Christine “The location was great fun for the children.”
They loved the steam trains. Very pleasant walk into Whitby. House was unique.
- Christine, May 2018 -
David “Potential hirers need to be advised that The Bridge Inn in Ruswarp does not currently serve food and is not open every day.”
- David, March 2018 -
David “Had an absolutely fantastic time at Ruswarp, both adults and dogs.”
The cottage is in a superb location, comfortable, relaxing and well maintained. This is our first time with Sykes, but it will not be the last. Would highly recommend both Sykes and The Station Masters House @ Ruswarp.
- David, March 2018 -
Sean “A great venue that was comfortable, spacious, and well equipped the last time we rented, and that still managed to improve on things this time round.”
The images are true-to-life and speak for themselves, but it's as much the details that aren't advertised that make it. Generous with the type and quality of crockery and cutlery and all the other domestic bits and pieces you need. We've stayed in places where the cheapest possible option has always been chosen, and that can really make a difference. Not so here where it feels throughout like a well-appointed home. And lots of thoughtful touches on arrival making it easy to slide into a holiday. All-in-all, an excellent break for everyone, and we'd definitely come again, thanks!
- Sean, February 2018 -
Susan “The accommodation was stunning and far exceeded our expectations.”
We have never stayed in such a well equipped house.
- Susan, February 2018 -

- Laura, November 2017 -

Easy walk to Whitby, lots of steam trains to watch and very spacious and well equipped.
- Lynne, October 2016 -
Mark “Station House was as described on Website and met Our expectations - House was ...”
Station House was as described on Website and met Our expectations - House was clean and welcoming - We enjoyed Our Anniversary Holiday - Never cooked on an Aga before but soon got used to it - Location was ideal for visiting surrounding areas and enjoyed added interest of Steam Trains passing by - Walk into Whitby following railway line took about 30 minutes and was along a level pathway - easy to catch local train back to your own " front door " Only negatative was if you are holidaying in term time - inconsiderate folk " on the school run " blocking access - by parking where they were not permitted to do so
- Mark, October 2016 -
Kathleen “Everything about the accommodation and location was perfect.”
- Kathleen, March 2016 -
Margaret “This was a wonderful place to spend our anniversary and the house was big enough to comfortably sleep 10 people of a variety of ages and needs.”
Everything was just perfect!
- Margaret, July 2015 -
Maurice “Loved this beautifully well furnished house in an unusual location with great facilities on hand; a pub across the road, bus stop outside and scenic walk between river and railway to Whitby.”
Steam engines of the NYM railway passing by provide interest, and rowing on the River Esk is a delight. A good house for those with a dog, the courtyards are secure and entry via the laundry room was useful in wet weather.
- Maurice, June 2015 -
paul “This was our second visit to The Station House and loved every minute.”
This is a lovely home full of warmth and character. The location is perfect for a walk into Whitby and the owners are always helpful. We have already booked our third visit for next year. Can't wait!
- paul, March 2015 -
Joanna “For us the use of 2 sitting rooms was a real bonus which gave us plenty of seating.”
Being dog friendly, the addition of the utility area was brilliant for damp dogs to dry off in and preventing shoes going onto the carpeted areas. The pub opposite is very handy for food, it gets busy so book or arrive early. It was great to walk into Whitby but even better to get back on the train and be on your doorstep. Overall 10/10, can't wait to return.
- Joanna, March 2015 -
Ron “This is the 4th time we've stayed at The Station House and we always find it a lovely, relaxing environment which has great access to all the local amenities and attractions.”
We love that it is a real home from home.
- Ron, February 2015 -
Pamela “This was a holiday for a family get-together, the accommodation was spacious, comforable and clean and situated for easy access into Whitby and surrounding towns and villiages.”
- Pamela, December 2014 -
Marguerite “An extremely well equipped, spacious but cosy and welcoming house.”
Very conveniently situated for amenities and access to the town and lovely countryside/riverside walks. The occasional steam train or scheduled diesel (only 4 a day and only two carriages) made an interesting diversion - and did not detract from the overall peace and comfort of the house. We spent a lovely week here in December and would thoroughly recommend this property.
- Marguerite, December 2014 -
Karen “The cottage was lovely and in a great position for walking into Whitby.”
Fabulous for family gatherings and the children loved the trains going past.
- Karen, November 2014 -
Lynne “A wonderful characterful property in an excellent location, with plenty of space for us all.”
The steam engines were a particular bonus and going out to see them while they waited for the level crossing was great fun. A real gem of a cottage and we'll be back.

Tracy “Great location.”

- Tracy, September 2014 -
Robert “Although it was only a short break, we enjoyed the access to the walks nearby across to Whitby and the general setting.”
It was very relaxing to just enjoy the patio garden and restful being in the house when the weather was a bit damp or chilly. It was a good base for any kind of holiday, and having two sitting rooms, and a good utility room was great for a big family or a group of different ages.
- Robert, May 2014 -
Ian “This is our second year at The Old Station House, and it never fails to make us happy.”
In fact, none of us really wanted to come home, even the dog was upset. The owner keeps a very tidy House and looks after it really well. hoping to go back next year too.
- Ian, April 2014 -

Duncan “It was my fathers 80th birthday and to have children and grandkids in one house was very special.”
The real beauty was the space, it allowed us to eat and socialise but also have our own space - from the utility room, to the warm kitchen, to the eating area and the sanctuary of the back sitting room.
- Duncan, January 2014 -

- Nick, December 2013 -
Jenny “A dream house, just as a station house would be imagined, even to the trains stopping at the station.”
The house was warm and cosy, with enough rooms to prevent a family of eleven getting on top of each other. The Aga, woodburner, pub across the road and the Santa Special train trip made our whole experience at the Station House unforgettable. A must rent property for all train lovers, young and old.
- Jenny, November 2013 -
