Simon “We enjoyed our stay overall with a great location, quiet and furnished to please the eye, with everything in the kitchen you could ask for.”
However, we are very sorry to say that 2 things let the apartment down, and these are 2 of the most important; cleanliness and bed comfort. We found very quickly that the apartment had not been cleaned to an expected standard, for such a highly rated property. Thick dust on the fireplace, food crumbs in the bottom of the fridge, evidence of the last children to stay in the bunk bed drawers, sticky drinks ring marks on the main bedside table and worst of all, dirty and hairy main bedsheet and ...
However, we are very sorry to say that 2 things let the apartment down, and these are 2 of the most important; cleanliness and bed comfort. We found very quickly that the apartment had not been cleaned to an expected standard, for such a highly rated property. Thick dust on the fireplace, food crumbs in the bottom of the fridge, evidence of the last children to stay in the bunk bed drawers, sticky drinks ring marks on the main bedside table and worst of all, dirty and hairy main bedsheet and pillow cases. We are not fussy, and do not go out looking for issues, but these stood out straight away and really surprised us. The bedding was so bad, we had to buy a new sheet and pillow cases whilst out food shopping in Tesco (not far away, again cannot fault the location). We also bought 2 extra towels as we had only been supplied with 3, for 4 of us to last a full week. I'm sure the owners will be really disappointed to hear this, and hope that they address the issues with whoever provides the cleaning service. I can only presume they are not aware or this was a one-off. Unfortunately, the mattress on the main bed also needs replacing. It had sunk on both sides and we could feel the springs underneath. We usually find that beds are firmer or of a memory foam structure, but this was too soft and felt well used. Unfortunately this did affect our sleep. It was also disappointing that the side sea view was blocked by the full height scaffolding next door. I think this should be made clear on the listing to avoid any disgruntled guests. Again, we hope that the owners address the issues and take this as constructive feedback. I'm sure they will, and if they do, they will be back to the 5 star rated property it deserves to be. I would also like to express my disappointment that Sykes did not respond to our concerns sent via their message service on the first day. We also followed this up towards the end of the stay and have still not heard back. Only automated responses received which is poor customer service.
