Roger “Leather sofa not very comfortable.”
Heating very good. Larger tv screen would be good. Smokey chimney on heating start up. When windy an eerie howl comes through the back door! Otherwise very good and enjoyed the location 100%. Very friendly owner

- Roger, April 2025Thank you for you feedback and it's great to hear that you enjoyed the location, we are lucky to have such scenic views around us. The heating is run by an environmentally friendly pellet boiler which is housed in an outside building and has a chimney flu in the roof. Occasionally this may emit some smoke though the chimney but we hope this didn't spoil your stay. We are always trying to provide a lovely experience for guests and will take your comments on board. Gordon “Very nice to have pack with tea bags and biscuits on arrival but some milk in the fridge please!”
Wooden chopping board would be nice Plumbing quite noisy and electric showers are all pretty poor when it comes to pressure However , overall excellent base to explore area

Linda “Thank you for a brilliant stay at Granary Cottage.”
It’s in a beautiful setting on a farm. The owners were at hand to help but allowed us our privacy at all times. The cottage itself was charming, warm and cozy. It had every thing we needed, very clean and all appliances seemed like new. The courtesy gift on arrival was a lovely touch too! Loved the biscuits! All in all a great stay, close to all the major sites and lovely walking everywhere.we hope to return, and our little dogs agree!
- Linda, October 2024 -
Kath “I was very impressed with Granary Cottage.”
Very clean, comfortable, everything I needed for my time away. Lovely and quiet, easy walks for myself and the dogs. Private back garden which was ideal. The complementary gift pack was a lovely surprise. I wouldn’t hesitate to return for another stay.

Lauren “Beautiful cottage and a fantastic location !”
Fantastic for families, we went (2 adults and a 2 year old toddler) and had the best time, we was provided with a high chair and stair gates and given the option of a cot if we needed one! Absolutely cannot fault this place or the owners, we was given some lovely goodies as well on arrival. Loved our stay and hope we can go back !

Lesley “Lovely clean little cottage in a quiet position but still close to the coast and North Yorks Moors.”
We really appreciated the welcome pack of biscuits, Yorkshire Brackets and tea. The only downside for us was the dog in the adjoining cottage - we couldn't sit out in the garden without it barking but it was fine otherwise.
- Lesley, June 2024Thank you for your lovely review, it's so nice to hear that you liked the cottage and enjoyed the welcome pack. I am sorry about the noise from the guests dog in the cottage next door but hope that we can welcome you back again soon. Property Owner

Anne “Very clean and well equipped and in a lovely peaceful location.”
Great hosts. The cottage is very small and I found the lack of light very claustrophobic.

A very nice a well presented cottage, the only drawback for me the mattress on the double bed was a little too soft for my taste, that said I'd have no issues booking it again

Everything ok, would have liked a coffee table in living area as nowhere to put cups & glasses when seated, granary cottage is in perfect location for the local attractions and amenities, would recommend for anyone,
- Edward, May 2024Thank you for your feedback. It is lovely to hear that you thought Granary cottage was in the perfect location for visiting this beautiful area. We have added a side table in the living room so there is an additional surface for placing drinks. It is great that you would recommend us to others and hope to welcome you back in the future. Steve “A lovely little cottage in North Yorkshire.”
Beautifully situated to explore the moors and the coastline. It is comfortable, well equipped and spotlessly clean. The owner is a lovely person

Jean “We had a lovely stay at Granary Cottage.”
The location is perfect for visiting various parts of North Yorkshire, which has beautiful beaches/walks, perfect for our dogs. The cottage is fully equipped, clean and comfortable. A lovely welcome pack was there on arrival, which was much appreciated.
- Jean, April 2024Thank you for your lovely feedback and it is great to hear you had a lovely stay. We hope to welcome you back in the future. Property Owner

Helen “Cottage is gorgeous but can’t really be classed as dog friendly when dogs are not allowed upstairs.”
This is fine but you need to provide some sort of gate at the bottom of the open stairs if you don’t want them to go up. We had to wedge two dining chairs across the opening which wasn’t ideal as then we had no chairs to sit on!! Apart from that small issue the cottage is lovely but it could do with softening up with a large rug and some artwork on the walls
- Helen, April 2024Thank you for your feedback. It is great to hear that you thought Granary Cottage was gorgeous and lovely. The cottage is dog friendly with small pet bowls, a dog blanket provided and a secure enclosed rear garden space. There are numerous walks in the area ranging from country lanes, bridlepaths, moorland, forestry and local beaches which are great for dogs. We can also easily install a stair gate on the stairs to assist guests but had not been made aware that you required one as this wasn't mentioned when we checked if everything was ok for you in the cottage. We appreciate your comments and will make sure that this option is more clearly displayed in the cottage in the future. We understand that certain preferences, like interior decoration, can vary from person to person, but there is artwork in the cottage and also cushions and throws in each room to provide colour and texture for a homely and welcoming feel. Lynn “Granary cottage is a beautiful cottage in a lovely peaceful setting.”
The cottage has everything in it that you could need including dog bowls. It is beautifully maintained and nothing is too much trouble for Cara. This was our second visit and definitely not the last
- Lynn, March 2024Thank you so much for your kind feedback and we very much hope to welcome you back for your third visit. Property Owner

Frankie “We had a wonderful short stay at Granary Cottage.”
We had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. Kitchen had everything we needed and beds and bedding were comfortable. It was in a perfect location for visiting places on the moors such as Grosmont and Goathland as well as quick access to Whitby and Scarborough. We enjoyed walking from the door to Ravenscar with a welcome refreshment break at the National Trust tearoom.
- Frankie, October 2023 -
Michael “The Granary Cottage was lovely.”
It is conveniently located to Whitby, Robin's Hood Bay and other nearby villages and towns, despite being incredibly peaceful. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the cottage and the host, Cara, was very responsive!
- Michael, October 2023 -
Ian “We have stayed here before and will again.”
Everything we need is in the cottage and it's always clean and tidy when we come.
- Ian, October 2023 -
Russell “Great, nice and quiet location for a relaxing break.”
. There was a lovely welcome bag, much appreciated. Spent a lovely day in Whitby, well worth a visit. All round a lovely place to stay, would highly recommend.
- Russell, October 2023 -
Barbara “The Cottage was beautiful and very clean and cozy.”
The kitchen was very well equipped and had everything we needed. The shower was very good and my bed was very comfortable. Sadly the downstairs furniture wasn’t so comfortable. Although leather wears very well and they looked ok, there was no support in the innards of the sofa, so I sank back into a hollow and my knees were higher than my hips. Shame, because the rest was perfect. Key safe made arriving and leaving very simple. The property is in a beautiful area and was convenient for Whitby, Scarborough and lots of lovely nearby walks. Would recommend Scalby Mill Inn for lovely and very reasonable food and dogs are made welcome. North shore at Scarborough was great for the dogs too.
- Barbara, September 2023 -
Eric “A nice cosy cottage in a peaceful quiet setting.”
Central to lots of places to visit along the coast and inland. Plenty of pubs in the area where you can have a nice meal.
- Eric, August 2023 -
Lindsay “We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Granary Cottage.”
The cottage was clean and well equipped with everything you could possibly need. The private, walled garden was great, nice and secure for our dog to enjoy. The surroundings are picture perfect. Quiet and restful but central to surrounding places of interest. We would definitely love to come back. Thank you for a wonderful stay.
- Lindsay, August 2023 -
Sheila “Lovely home away from home.”
Comfortable and easy to find. Central location for the exploring the local area. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
- Sheila, July 2023 -
David “Grab rail in bath/shower is needed.”
Shower needs updating to provide better flow and control. Oven underpowered.
- David, June 2023Thank you for your feedback. We are more than happy to answer any queries prior to booking to help you ensure that you can choose the most suitable cottage but we had not been made aware that you required a grab rail for the bath. The shower is a modern Mira Sport with 3 power flows as well as 4 different shower head settings to ensure that you have full control over the temperature, the speed of flow plus options as to the style of shower so you can adjust to personal preference. As the shower is relatively new with a good flow and options to suit each user, we do not feel that it needs updating so we are sorry that this was not to your liking. The oven is a multifunction fan oven with several different functions which heats to temperature and it has been tested and is working well. We strive to provide a lovely environment in Granary Cottage so we hope you enjoyed your holiday. Property Owner

Edward “Perfect,we enjoyed every minute of our stay, perfect location.”
- Edward, May 2023 -
Donald “Just simply perfect, cottage, contents, location all A1.”
In the country nice and quiet but not too far away from all the places we wanted to go, eg Whitby, Robin Hood bay, Goathland, Grosmont, Saltburn, RSPB Bempton Cliffs plus lots more. We got lots of photos of the Gannets. Also Steam trains. This was one of our better holidays for along time. Cottage was fab, weather a bit mixed all week but even that could not spoil our excellent holiday in this Clean, warm snug cottage. Thank you
- Donald, April 2023 -
Julie “Lovely cottage in great location.”
Very quiet yet only 10 miles or so from Whitby and Scarborough. Great forest and coastal walks nearby - we had our dog with us and she loved it. Lovely walk up disused rail line from Ravenscar also. Recommend Ravenscar cafe for breakfast and snacks just a mile or so away and Blacksmiths inn in cloughton close to for food as nearest pub the Falcon appears to be being refurbished. Cottage lovely and clean - Bedrooms small but as expected in barn conversion so no complaints although if you were tall they may be a problem with very low beams. Lots of extra kitchen bits and bobs provided and thoughtful welcome gift appreciated. Enclosed garden for dog was good for us also. Only comment would be pillows were very soft and seemed lumpy but that could be our personal preference. Would recommend.
- Julie, April 2023Thank you for your comments, it is great to hear that you thought Granary Cottage was lovely. We have since changed the pillows so that guests now have a choice to suit personal preference and we hope to welcome you back to the cottage again in the future. Property Owner

Carol “A lovely cottage, very clean well presented throughout.”
Not far from the coast you can drive to whitby scarborough filey, plenty of walks if you have dogs very pleased
- Carol, October 2022 -
Vicky “Lovely cottage in a peaceful location and beautiful area of the country.”
We wanted for nothing as absolutely everything was provided at the cottage. For us, being "oldies", the settee was rather low but it's not a criticism. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would certainly consider going back again in the future.
- Vicky, September 2022 -
Tim “The cottage was as described, is well equipped and maintained and was perfect for the two us and our dogs.”
The handover couldn't have been simpler and the owner was really helpful with a couple of queries we had. It's well placed for visiting both the coast and inland sites of the North Yorks Moors park with many interesting places to visit within an hours drive. Would visit again and recommend.
- Tim, August 2022 -
Jayne “Very rural location, which was good as it was quiet, we were able to get out and about to the local places of interests, such as Robin Hoods Bay and the walk to Ravenscar was lovely (along the coast).”
We had dogs and it was great for them too! All in all it was a lovely venue, it was just disappointing that the Falcon Inn had recently closed which meant we had to drive to eat out, we found the Bryherstone Pub, which was a good venue for food with excellent customer service.
- Jayne, July 2022 -
Kelly-anne “The property was clean, well equipped and cosy.”
- Kelly-anne, June 2022 -
Robert “Good location easy distance to whitby and scarborough.”
- Robert, May 2022 -

Martin “We really enjoyed our stay .”
I was very pleased with how clean it was and all the extra thoughtfulness that was given to things you may need but have forgotten .The setting was lovely and all in all I would recommend this cottage to friends and family .Thanks for a lovely stay
- Martin, April 2022 -
Lorraine “The cottage was lovely, very clean and well equipped and the welcome pack was much appreciated - the fruit loaf was yummy!”
Cara our host was lovely and very helpful so all in all a great few days away. As an EV owner finding a charging point presented some challenges with Lidl in Scarborough being the closest. The addition of an EV charging point would be the icing on the cake!
- Lorraine, April 2022 -
Dawn “We stayed in the granary cottage for my husband’s birthday.”
I contacted the owner and asked if she would kindly put a cream tea on for a surprise for my husband before we arrived obviously at an extra cost for which she obliged the cream tea was a big surprise for him and an enjoyable one too. The cottage was beautiful well equipped and clean we would definitely recommend it.
- Dawn, April 2022 -

- Donna, November 2021 -
Stacey “We had a lovely time at Granary Cottage.”
Its nice and quiet in the countryside to close enough to see the sea and visit. We had lots of fun walking and got wet through one of the days but the cottage is so well equipped with all the essentials you could possibly need. I hadnt packed washing detergent as we were only there for 3 days but when we DEFINITELY needed to wash/dry we could. The secure yard was perfect for our dog. Everything was super clean and it was a pleasure to stay there. We will be planning a return trip. The cottage was perfectly located, warm and cosy. We visited at the end of October.
- Stacey, October 2021 -
Colette “This is a well serviced cottage in a beautiful setting.”
The farm is immaculate. My only issue was the bed, it was a bit hard and I could not get comfortable and the bedrooms were very hot. It was mild for October and we did turn heating off but the bedrooms were stuffy. A great little cottage
- Colette, October 2021 -
Maureen “Located in the countryside but easy access to Whitby, Scarborough, Robin Hoods Bay and Filey.”
We also were able to enjoy the North York Moors Steam train from Pickering to Whitby and a drive through Dalby Forest. After spending each day out and about it was lovely to return to our cosy cottage.
- Maureen, October 2021 -
Elizabeth “Excellent well maintained cottage.”
Quiet location. Good walking area. Easily accessible to Whitby/Scarborough road and beyond via A171, 3 minutes drive away. Would happily visit again.
- Elizabeth, August 2021 -
Robert “Wonderful quiet location.”
So peaceful and relaxing
- Robert, July 2021 -
John “Loverly peaceful spot”
- John, July 2021 -
Annabel “It’s a lovely small cottage in a beautiful quiet spot.”
Suggestions for improvements: a more powerful shower, a larger fridge and a higher fence in the back garden.
- Annabel, July 2021 -
Laura “Had a lovely stay at Granary Cottage; the outside space really surprised us as it was larger than expected, and a really great sun trap!”
The cottage was lovely, very clean and comfortable. The bedrooms were smaller than expected but fine for a couple of nights' stay. Would absolutely recommend and stay again!
- Laura, June 2021 -
Stephen “Smaller than expected but very well appointed in a very nice location a couple of little suggestions for improvement a couple of extra coat hooks in the living area will be welcome this is classified as a 3 person let but only 2 coat hooks also a long handled broom will be useful, .”
Instructions for opetating dvd seem to be for a different machine/tv and could not get it to work which was unfotunate especially as we were unfotunate with the weather
- Stephen, May 2021 -
Sharon “Lovely cottage set in peaceful countryside surroundings.”
Very small but more than adequate for our week away. Unfortunately we were there before lockdown had been totally lifted (holiday postponed from last year) so none of the local pubs were open for dining out, which meant a fair trek to Scarborough for a take-away. Great for dog walking, though very hilly, as you would expect in the Yorkshire Moors! The cottage had a small enclosed courtyard at the back, so the dogs were completely safe which is a must when I book anywhere. The only thing I would point out is that the stair treads are fairly narrow and a long-handled broom would not have gone amiss. Overall a lovely little cottage in the heart of farmland on the moors. Perhaps a little too remote for us, but that's just a personal opinion.
- Sharon, April 2021 -
Nicola “Great weeks break away from it all.”
Owners were grand and friendly and helpful. Cottage was lovely and suited the purpose. perfect.
- Nicola, October 2020 -
Sharon “Very clean was lefted biscuits cake and tea bags everything you needed lovely break away”

Raymond “We are very pleased with our holiday the dogs loved i would book it again thank you”
- Raymond, November 2019 -
Mark “The cottage was absolutely beautiful; it is very tastefully decorated and furnished and all of the little touches make it a special experience.”
The owners have provided everything you need so you don't have to worry about anything. The location of the Cottage is really nice, with great scenery and easy access to all the local visiting sites and great walks. We really enjoyed staying at Granary Cottage and plan on returning in the future.
- Mark, October 2019 -
Hilary “This is a little gem whose owners clearly have an eye for detail.”
In over 40 years of hiring self-catering properties (2 to 5 times a year) I have never experienced a property which was so well-equipped. Despite being on holiday. I always cook from scratch and usually find that something is 'missing' - but not at Granary Cottage. It was exactly as described and shown in the listing and from the moment I entered I knew it would suit my needs perfectly. Everything was spotlessly clean and well thought out and provided for, plus the location was peaceful. My previous experiences - Often, there is initially disappointment when entering a property and a feeling of being let down. Often, if a property is for 3 people, there are just 3 of everything. Often, equipment is not provided or is well-used and/or mis-matched. BUT I cannot fault Granary Cottage
- Hilary, September 2019 -
Keith “A welcoming box of hard chocolate toffees was awaiting our arrival, but a small bottle of milk in the fridge so that we could have had tea/coffee would have been more appreciated.”
We found the cottage to be quite dark inside and lacking in natural light . There was no real garden for the dog to roam in just a courtyard type garden. We were expecting to sit outside and look at the view but there was not one.Apart from that we found the cottage well eguipped and comfortable.
- Keith, July 2019 -
Lorna “Lovely cottage, clean with everything that you could possibly need.”
Granary Cottage is in beautiful surroundings, and the booklet left by the owners gave you instruction of how to find local shops, beaches and eatery's. The cottage itself was fully equipped, we didn't have to take towels, bed linen, tea towels, etc, in fact there was even toilet roll, kitchen roll, washing up liquid, dishwasher tablets. You really could just unpack and relax. The back yard was a sun trap and excellent for the dogs. I would highly recommend this cottage.
- Lorna, July 2019 -
Jean “The cottage was clean, comfortable and well equipped.”
It was very quiet and central for lots of places you would want to visit.
- Jean, June 2019 -
Lynsey “It was a lovely cottage, very comfortable, with everything we needed in a quiet location that was great for exploring the local area.”
And a secure garden was great for our dog.
- Lynsey, April 2019 -
Dana “Excellent cottage, great location.”
- Dana, April 2019 -
Keith “The location is brilliant it is nice and peaceful with great views not too ...”
The location is brilliant it is nice and peaceful with great views not too far away from the main coast towns of Scarborough and whitby right next door to robinhoods bay but You do need your own transport to get about if you don't like walking Plenty of places near by for food and drinks and they allow you to take your dog in with you The cottage is well set out with everything you need to enjoy your stay It could do with a bolt on the back door keeping the two half's together when opening it but that's a minor thing and nothing to worry about A small piont to make is that the local shop 1 mile away from the cottage as advertised is now closed down so you need to travel a way up the road for news papers and supplys The owners are really plesent and don't bother you at all unless you need THEM ( which we didn't ) would recommend staying here and are planning to do so again , later in the year as we had a great time
- Keith, March 2019 -
Mick “The cottage was spotless, cost and warm , fully equipped with everything you could need and only 10 miles to either Whitby or Scarborough, you could here a pin drop at night it was that quiet.”
- Mick, March 2019 -
Alan “Really nice place to stay, clean & tidy, nice location.”
- Alan, March 2019 -
Yasmine “Cottage was very clean, and very warm (I was always turning the heating down).”
Small but everything you need. Enclosed garden at the back is perfect for dogs. It's north facing, so might not be so nice for sitting out in the evening. We didn't see the owners but it was nice to know that they were on hand if we needed them. Central location for the area, so was easy to reach the coast and the moors.
- Yasmine, February 2019 -
Judith “Beautiful cosy cottage in quiet location.”

Alan “This was the 3rd time we have stayed at Granary Cottage and we have been delighted each time.”
Excellent position for visiting beautiful coastal villages and North Yorkshire Moors Railway.
- Alan, September 2018 -
Chris “Good location for trips to the coast.”
Could be made more homely by placing a rug in the living area. Both dishwasher and washer/dryer smelled badly and were in need of a major clean. There were black deposits inside the rubber seal of the washer/dryer door. Space in the main bedroom was limited. Noise from the boiler or the plumbing could be heard often during the night.
- Chris, September 2018Thank you for your feedback and for your suggestions. We really wish you had informed us of that you felt there was a smell coming from the dishwasher and washer/dryer. We clean this every week so are surprised at these comments. We have never had any negative feedback in relation to the boiler or plumbing work but we have checked this and there are no problems. Thank you for providing this feedback to us again and we hope you had a great holiday. Property Owner
