“This was our 2nd stay at Fishermans, it's in a fab spot to explore Staithes and it's a lovely cottage.”

It could possibly benefit from abit of "doing up",ie the exterior and the balcony but it has a lovely feel to it and the welcome pack is a lovely touch and very much appreciated.

“My son and I had a fabulous week staying at Fisherman's cottage in beautiful Staithes.”

The accommodation exceeded my expectations in that it was furnished to a very high standard, every little detail had been thought of with a well-equipped kitchen and it was such a pleasant surprise to find a generous selection of goodies left for us on arrival, including fresh milk in the fridge! I have no qualms in wholeheartedly recommending Fisherman's and hope to return some day. Many thanks!

“Lovely holiday and cottage comfortable and well equipped.”

Appreciated the quality of bedding and facilities. Car parking proved difficult. Although generously given a permit, it was almost useless as unable to park in permit allocated area. No fault of the owner but council need to reorganise and resign carpark.

“Lovely cottage in a brilliant location.”

Our kids had a room each and managed to sleep through the seagulls' cries better than we did - that was really the only downside to our week. The cottage is really well equipped and comfortable. Staithes is a great little village with lots of character and plenty to do even before you trek back up the hill. We enjoyed the beach and swimming/snorkelling in the harbour, clambering on the sea wall and watching the boats come and go. There's loads of other stuff to do in the area, we walked on the cliffs and the moors, visited Whitby for the beach and boat rides, went as far as Scarborough for the castle and the water park, and generally enjoyed the local scenery and hospitality. We discovered that some of the pubs shut on random days and may or may not do food, so if you're planning a trip including a pub lunch/dinner, probably best to call ahead.

“Best holiday home I have ever stayed in.”

The location was excellent, and there can't be many places in the country that can boast views of sea, harbour, beach, river and cliffs from the balcony and north facing windows. The accommodation itself was beautifully and tastefully presented. The cottage was extremely well equipped with top quality utensils, crockery, cutlery etc., even down to a pizza wheel and a proper espresso coffee machine! Parking in Staithes is a bit of an issue, but once we had secured a parking slot in the well described areas, using the parking permit provided, we found that we didn't need the car again until we left for home, preferring to walk out in either direction from the village and use the excellent bus service to return us home.

“Lovely well equipped cottage in the heart of Staithes with all rooms and balcony overlooking the harbour/lifeboat station.”

Owner was very helpful and provided welcome food as well as a parking permit for the council car park at the top of the hill (there is no long-term parking by the cottage). Staithes itself has 3 pubs, two in the harbour area and one at the top of the hill, a small butcher/grocer/newsagent, two tearooms, an art gallery and a "Captain Cook" museum (one of many in the area!) all at the bottom of the hill in the old town, as well as a CoOp at the top of the hill. Great for coastal walks (directly on the Cleveland way), and on the edge of the North York Moors National Park, steam railway etc

“All the equipment was very modern and 'top of the range' but that meant it was too complicated for oldies like us to cope with.”

Also we think you should say that this cottage is not really suitable for elderly and/or disabled people, having only one toilet in the bathroom which is at the top of fairly steep and narrow stairs. And because there is no parking in the village and a very steep climb to the car park.

This pretty cottage is tucked away into the seaside village of Staithes, a central location with fabulous views from every room, and its very own balcony.

Perfect for families and friends, Fishermans Cottage is a wonderful place to make yourselves at home, a great base for exploring the coastline and the North York Moors.

Built on top of the estuary, the interior comprises a well-equipped kitchen and a small breakfast table, ideal for enjoying a warm cup of tea before the day ahead.

Scenic views almost follow you around, continuing through to the lounge which is comfy and inviting, providing access to the outdoors.

Choose from one of the books available, and relax on the three-seater sofa, or armchairs, escaping into your own world amongst the tranquil outlook.

There is also a dining table should you wish to gather together for some quality time, as the night closes in.

The first floor reveals three stylish bedrooms, with somewhere for all the family to unwind after a long day, and charming furnishings to off-set the layout wholeheartedly.

A lovely family bathroom completes the accommodation with a shower above the bath.

Carefully co-ordinated, this cottage provides a homely base to explore not only the coastline but the North York Moors as well.

Whitby is only 10 miles and offers a swimming pool, golf course and a variety of entertainments.

Nowadays, Staithes is a must for anyone visiting the Yorkshire Coast and has a good selection of pubs, shops and tea rooms.

The best views of the town can be enjoyed from the Cleveland Way which runs down the cliff to the sea’s edge.

About the location

STAITHES

Whitby 10 miles.

The charming and sleepy seaside village of Staithes, with its cobbled streets and back alleys, is something of an artist’s dream. Its pretty houses and cottages are clustered around the old harbour and surrounded by high craggy cliffs on three sides, with a sheltered sandy beach set amongst the rocky coastline. The village can claim connections with Captain Cook who was apprenticed to a draper near the harbour. Nowadays, Staithes is a must for anyone visiting the Yorkshire Coast and has a good selection of pubs, shops and tea rooms. Staithes is still home to an RNLI lifeboat station and a small fleet of cobles (fishing boats) landing fish, crab and lobster, with boat trips for birdwatching, fishing and even whale watching available. It’s also the location of the popular BBC children’s TV series, Old Jack’s Boat. Staithes has a strong attraction for artists, with an annual Art and Heritage Festival, galleries and artists studios with art courses and workshops regularly on offer. There’s a free Illusion Trail, which guides visitors around the network of ginnels (alleyways), with trail guides available locally. The best views of the town can be enjoyed from the Cleveland Way which runs down the cliff to the sea’s edge. Altogether a superb base for exploring the Yorkshire Coast, visiting the larger resorts of Whitby or Scarborough and enjoying the moorland villages of the North York Moors National Park.
