“Myself and my son (9y with additional needs) needed some R&R so we booked this rural looking cottage and took our 2 dogs.”

The cottage itself was lovely with views across a paddock. Unfortunately, there was renovation work going on next door but one, from early morning until dark, involving electric saws etc so it was very noisy. We booked Mon - Fri but left on Thursday. On Thursday I was awoken with banging on the roof at 7:30am. I went out to investigate and it was someone cleaning out the gutters. I got up and let the dogs in the paddock opposite, as advertised. On Thursday I was awoken with banging on the roof at 7:30am. I went out to investigate and it was someone cleaning out the gutters. I got up and let the dogs in the paddock opposite, as advertised. One of my dogs started yelping as if she’d been ran over and she came to me with 3 deep wounds, 2 in her legs and one in her side. I rang around vets and managed to get her booked in for a general anaesthetic and stitches which cost over £600. I messaged the owner who said the paddock was now out of bounds and she would be over tomorrow. We left after her operation on Thursday night as we had had enough.

Dear Susan Thank you for your time doing a reference, we are glad you found the cottage lovely. I wish you had mentioned to ourselves about the noise from the work, this is totally unforgivable. We have just finished converting the barn next door to enable us to be onsite for any issues as we feel we are not aware of the cottages living so far away. This is making a huge difference and we are working our way through making the cottages as good as we can and now the paddock isn't always as available as there are horses looking back at you from the paddock. The builders where under our employ and we made them aware but it appears they didn't show you any respect at all. I also was unaware of the time the gutters were cleaned, we said not early but we were not there and didn't know. I understand how these things create a level of stress and apologise. We didn't hear back from you after your dog had the accident, thank goodness for insurance as vets fees are ridiculous atm, we had to pay £95 just for them to look at a tooth, never mind any remedies or work. We searched the paddock for the cause of the harm, there was a lot of wood but nothing that jumped out at us, so again I can't apologise enough but sometimes animals find a way. Property Owner
