“This is excellent good value for money accommodation in a strategic location with access easily gained to wonderful beaches and interesting picturesque towns and villages.”

Within an 8 minute drive there are places to eat and places get essential rations for your stay. Very quiet top quality accommodation.

“I booked the Carthouse, near Skipsea for 2 nights.”

They do not offer 2 night stays and you didn't pass the booking onto the owners. When we arrived the beds hadn't been made and the bathrooms were not clean. I contacted the owner who was very apologetic, but it wasn't their fault. You had taken my money and not passed the details onto them. Luckily, the owner got the place ready in no time and we were able to enjoy our break. Definitely would not trust to use Sykes cottages again.

“The property is quite nice, however, we were disappointed with the following 1.”

The outside area and furniture are very poor and neglected 2. As soon as you enter the property there was an extremely dirty mop and bucket and hoover that was full of dirt. We emptied this and then hoovered the property and soon filled the chamber again, showing that it had not been done properly in the first place. 3. There were cobwebs all over the beams and inside all of the table lamps 4. No frying pan and a very small oven tray 5. Bath towels poor quality

“The cottage is very nice and comfortable.”

There is plenty of space, the full size fridge/freezer makes a change from the usual under counter type. The bedrooms are roomy, light and airy. The double bed upstairs is really comfy, and the shower room downstairs was a bonus, with a good shower. The cottage would benefit from some TLC, especially outside, and a better selection of cookware would meant we would have given 5 stars. The paddock was a quite overgrown, but there was a mown path around the outside, but Charlie, our Cocker Spaniel, loved romping around in there (and chasing the cat)

“A lovely clean and comfortable property, well thought out.”

If possible the windows need to be cleaned and that would enhance the enjoyment for visitors. Also the ground floor bedroom needs a working bedside lamp. I had to use a torch when visiting the toilet in the night for safety reasons to avoid possible injuries. Apart from that it was the perfect getaway. We loved it and would definitely book again.

“The cart house is just as advertised.”

Well equipped, very comfortable indeed, wonderfully quiet and peaceful. Comfortable sofas, very comfortable beds, good shower, great WiFi and fully equipped kitchen (including proper fridge and freezer & not the small under counter fridge with tiny freezer you often get). Ulrome is within very easy reach of Hornsea, Bridlington, Filey, Scarborough , Flamborough head. There's only a couple of very minor recommendations from us to improve it. Upstairs was very warm with small low windows which can't be opened far. (a fan would help). Also a vacuum cleaner would help for cleaning up bits on the large rug downstairs. Thanks for a great stay, well done.

“A lovely cottage, clean & comfy.”

Ample storage space & nice bed linen.The welcome pack was a lovely touch, thank you Karen. Sadly the outside of the cottage lets it down with moss growing on decking and outside furniture. Wooden sleepers were rotting & so was L/h side of front door. Roof tile missing next to Velux window, looks like it's been lying in the grass for some time.such a shame after all the hard work that's been done.The dog walking paddock was unusable due to waist high weeds & grass .Doesn't look like it's been used for years.

“Really beautiful cottage with everything you need.”

Comfortable beds and we loved the layout having a downstairs bedroom as I am disabled. Had to buy shower mats as incredibly slippy and no handles to hold onto so could have been dangerous. Upstairs bath pipes are very loose and could cause flooding so we didn't use it.

“The cottage is in a nice location, with views across a small field , with the road beyond.”

The cleaning is excellent and the seating, beds and general furnishings are good. Whilst a ground floor bedroom was great for us, the two steps up into the bathroom were not mentioned and did present a problem. The kitchen was badly designed when installed and there is not one cupboard available for self catering guests to put there own items into. These items, therefore, take up a large proportion of the worksurface . The problem with the property was the lack of general maintenance, which had not been addressed for some considerable time, as well as lack of attention to detail. Three torches were said to be in the property. There were none. This was reported, but none appeared during our stay. (It is very dark in the property at night) The kitchen tap was continually dripping and this had been pointed out to them by previous occupants two months earlier. (The kitchen is next to the downstairs bedroom, so this doesn't help sleep.) The back door lock was ineffective and the door opened with a slight push, thus placing possessions at risk of theft. The outside areas had seen better days. The front patio needed urgent attention to the surrounds. The rear garden, was full of large weeds, living and dead brambles and various rotting metallic ornaments. Not a pleasant place to sit and relax. The owner says that they are unaware of some defects, as they do not live locally, but they need to be more proactive. If they sorted these matters, it would make it a place worth staying at.

We have taken the cottages off rental for a few weeks to address the issues you have pointed out. New tap, garden tidy, torches. I have been down and resolved the cupboard space issue and resolved the back door and getting it ready for new photo's and a new year. We hope to see you again in 2024 Property Owner

“Pros: Lovely old building with a good layout.”

Nice area with lots of places to visit. Cons: The cottage needs some tidying up - the few outdoor pots had only weeds. The outside areas needed sweeping and weeding. The back table and chairs needed renovating, they were quite shabby. The kitchen was lacking a few things - e.g. we didn't have anything to wash the pots except a used scourer. There was only one tea towel and one dishwasher tablet. We could have done with more crockery, particularly mugs.

Filey is another lovely town with a museum, Filey Bird Garden and Animal Park and from here you can visit The Bay Beach or head into the North York Moors for a scenic walk.

Hornsea 6 miles; Bridlington 9 miles; Driffield 11 miles; Beverley 15 miles.

Situated 10 miles south of Bridlington and 6 miles north of Hornsea, the vlllage of Skipsea sits in a typically rural setting surrounded by rich, agricultural land, yet also rests within one mile of the beach and is close to the cliffs of the North Sea. The village has its own Post Office and general store, a hairdresser’s and a pub. Many of the houses in the village, both old and new, use cobbles from the sea shore in the building. Just outside the village are the remains of Skipsea Castle. The surrounding countryside is excellent for walking and cycling, whilst the nearby seaside towns of Bridlington and Filey boast long sandy beaches and numerous resort attractions.
