Lovely "home from home" accommodation.

Exactly as per all the previous great reviews. Everything you need there and a lovely welcome basket on arrival, even a pint of milk and dog treats - Zach said thanks :). Cupboards well stocked with anything you could possibly need for your stay. Loved the beach/seaside themed decor everywhere. Literally a stones throw from a great chippy and chinese and a short walk to the centre of Whitby. Aldi, Iceland and Sainsburys just round the corner too. Perfect location. Will be back!!

Over Esk is described by the owners as a home from home and that is exactly what it is.

We’ve now been twice and would definitely go again. So handy for Whitby but also out of the crowds. Comfortable, clean and homely.

Really injoyed the cottage spotless throughout welcome pack much appreciated everything you need is there in the cottage a few minutes walk to the centre didn't want to leave will be definitely booking here again in the future Thank-you very much john.

Just back from another cracking 8 day break in Whitby mainly due to the wonderful accommodation that is OVER ESK this is our second time here and hopefully not our last .

A great place to stay with a bed so comfortable we could have taken it home with us it is also one of the best equipped places we have stayed at and a wonderful location. We were overjoyed to receive a call from John offering us the opportunity to go a day early at no extra cost , a lovely gesture. Much appreciated. Jean

We had a lovely stay at Over Esk.

The property is situated on the east side of Whitby and is a short walk into the town. Excellent communication from the owner prior to our arrival and everything was in place to welcome us to the property.

Once again a lovely stay in a very clean and cosy property.

We use sykes cottages 4 or 5 times per year with Over Esk being the best property we have stayed in. You feel at home the minute you walk in the door. Lovely welcome pack for humans and dogs. Owners are genuinely nice people who have made sure you have the best holiday. Thank you for the recommendation regarding the flying scotsman. Loved every minute. Missing Whitby and Over Esk but hope to be back very soon.

Had a great week in Whitby mainly due to the accommodation (over esk ) being so close to the town where all was going on.

The house is very comfortable and very well kitted out , owner phoned the day before we travelled to explain parking,log burner etc. Only thing that slightly concerned me was there being no blind in the bathroom window. All in all though one of the best properties we have had the pleasure of staying in . Would recommend this property to everyone . Well done the owner's.

This is a perfect home from home.

Well equipped for anything you could need. A short walk from the hustle and bustle of Whitby Harbour and perfect for hopping on the bus to visit further afield. We can't wait to return!

This has to be one of the best equipped, spacious, clean and comfortable holiday homes we have ever been to.

Please do not under estimate those words, it simply has everything already there. Communications from Sykes, as well as John and Pat was excellent from the point of booking. The back garden is a completely enclosed sun trap, private and safe for our dog Eddie. This enabled full relaxation. The kitchen is spacious and has everything you would expect to find in a kitchen. The bedrooms are well equipped too... it has a great bath and the shower is awesome. Quite simply, we're going back to Over Esk... it's just a 8 minute walk to Whitby. You can see the Abbey from the living room and front bedroom. Great place, thank you Sykes and John and Pat.

We booked Over Esk at very short notice and straight away the owners contacted us to say we were welcome to arrive a day early at no extra cost.

This kindness continued once we arrived with a very generous welcome hamper. There were even treats for our dogs. The house is exactly like the photos with great attention to detail with the Whitby/seaside theme. The kitchen has everything you need, even an airfryer. We especially liked the garden which was a little suntrap. From the front door, there is a great view of the Abbey and you can see the river and Whitby steam train from the rear bedroom. The location is ideal too as it is in a quiet part of the town (with a great riverside walk) and is only an easy 10 minute walk to the town. The owners have gone above and beyond to be welcoming and helpful making Over Esk a holiday home you would be delighted to return to, especially with dogs.

Absolutely fantastic so homely and comfortable really enjoyed it.

We had a lovely time the cottage was within walking distance to the town we had a lovely greeting basket.

we had two dogs with us and they had a great time with back garden enclosed we were able to relax and let them play

Fantastic welcome hamper, thank you! Great location with about a ten minute walk into town. Everything you could think of was included. We especially enjoyed the log fire in the evenings as it went cool. Would definitely recommend .

A lovely house, probably the best we've had in Whitby (we've been to Whitby many times over the years) - comfortable, well-equipped, nicely kept, in a handy position for the town centre and for getting out and about to other places in the area (Robin Hoods Bay in one direction, Skinningrove in the other, and rowing in Ruswarp).

Very decent chippy (Riverside Fisheries) and the Middle Earth Tavern nearby. We had a lovely time, thanks to John & Pat.

An arrival all looked ok.

When unpacking some areas were not clean. Inside fridge was dirty also inside kitchen cupboards. Kitchen floor was grubby. Upstairs bathroom looked like it hadn’t been cleaned, cobweb on toilet roll holder. We were sticking to the floor in the bathroom, so we cleaned it, it was disgusting. On going to bed, the duvet had stains on it, it was a double duvet in a king size quilt and the bedding hadn’t been ironed. The mattress was very uncomfortable. Next morning we found the shower impossible to turn on due to limescale, we used the limescale cleaner in a cupboard twice a day until it was usable.it is a lovely property but housekeeping is letting it down.

We stayed here for a week in August and loved it.

Felt very welcome, our little dog felt at home straight away. The town centre is a short stroll away - about 10 minutes. We were left a generous welcome hamper and the house felt very well resourced. We can’t wait to come back

Fantastic property in a fantastic location.

This is our second stay here and we will be back next year. The property is welcoming and homey, the garden was perfect for my dog.

This place has everything we needed and more!

From the welcome hamper in the kitchen to the sun trap back garden, it was perfect for us and our 2 dogs. We had an issue with the TV and the owner came in person to fix it! We hope to come back here in the future.

Lovely comfortable home from home.

Very thoughtful welcome pack. Perfect for pets and owners. Very close to town and we found parking for two cars very easy.

We really enjoyed our stay at Over Esk, the house was so well equipped with everything we needed, the welcome pack was so generous, garden was lovely to sit in, we always got a parking place outside the house and a nice stroll into Whitby town.

We would like to book up next year, but all the slots seemed to be closed.

Brilliant little cottage,not far from town but still quiet at same time,garden nice and secure for dogs, lovely and comfortable and warm ,would definitely go back

Just returned after a lovely week at Over Esk.

We would highly recommend this property. Very comfortable and dog friendly house. We felt at home as soon as we entered the property. Whitby is our favourite place to bring our 2 dogs with us returning to the area on a regular basis. This is the best property we have stayed in within Whitby and we will be looking to book again in the future. The welcome basket and additional nights stay was a lovely gesture. Thank you

Over Esk was a very comfortable cottage which was just sitting on the towns edge which suited us.

The generous welcome pack was lovely too. All amenties where close at hand and we loved Whitby so will be returning. Just a couple of things, the tap for the shower is really difficult to turn on and off so needs looking at and the back door was stiff to open and shut.

Had a great week here with 4 adults and 2 small dogs.

Welcome hamper was fantastic. The house and garden were lovely. The main bedroom was big. The 2nd bedroom had 2 singles and nothing else but it wasn’t a problem because all you do is sleep in there anyway. Would definitely recommend. Only 10 minutes walk to town and we parked 2 cars outside no problem. Thanks for having us.

Lovely cottage.

Short walk into town. Plenty of utensils, bin bags,kitchen roll, dishwasher tablets and plenty more things. Extremely dog friendly. Throws provided for furniture treats and dog bowls. A number of Sky tv channels and wonderful back garden. Safe and secure for dogs. Very well maintained. Decking area with garden furniture. The owners very kindly contacted us prior to our holiday and invited us to come the day before free of charge. On arrival there was a very generous welcome pack. Along with beer wine and buns and a lovely note from the owners wishing my husband a happy birthday. A lovely time had by all. We would not hesitate to recommend over Esk.

Great location and super cosy.

We had a lovely week at Over Esk, it was so welcoming and cosy.

The house is perfect for a holiday with your dogs: the garden is secure and so is the front garden once you close the gate. Throws are provided for the sofas and there are even dog bowls, toys, leads and treats! Our two cockers settled in immediately. From Over Esk, there is a view of the abbey and a good view of the town, it is a ten minute maximum walk into the heart of Whitby. We managed to get a parking spot outside the cottage every day. The house is fully equipped and I enjoyed cooking a couple of nights in the kitchen. There are lots of books, we took games and cards with us. There is Sky TV with all available apps like Netflix and Prime. The only slight criticism I have is that the pillows were hard and I wish I’d taken one from home, but this is probably just me - I have felt this before! It is worth mentioning too that the second bedroom is very small, it has two single beds but no furniture; this was fine for us with children, but would be too small for two sets of adults. Other than these niggles, the cottage is perfect and a real home from home. Whitby is the most atmospheric, beautiful place to stay. It is exactly as Bram Stoker described it. Please make sure you go down to the beach at sunset, it is awe inspiring. We especially liked Staithes and Runswick Bay, the beach at Runswick is great with dogs. Robin Hood’s Bay has to be visited (best cakes too!) but the beach was disappointing, not nice clear sand, very rocky and covered in seaweed. We had mixed weather but actually it was perfect as there is so much to see and do around Whitby, you could never be bored! The walking is brilliant. We can’t wait to go back to Whitby and do all the things we missed! We will definitely return to lovely Over Esk.

Had a wonderful week at Over Esk weather was wonderful which is a bonus absolutely everything you could possibly need in the property & on street parking.

Ideally located a short walk into Whitby with wonderful views. Doggy treats were a bonus we will definitely be back.

Amazing location and views property was comfortable would benefit from a travel cot for young families but had everything else we needed the garden is a suntrap and was si much to do there we loved this for our first family holiday and was sad to leave

The quality of the whole experience was excellent.

The cottage was very well furnished and maintained and the welcome pack was more than generous. A call from Yorkshire cottages to check all was OK was reassuring. We had a very enjoyable time and would be very happy to go to Over Esk again

Over Esk was the perfect accommodation for our family for this holiday!

It was very welcoming and homely. The welcome basket of goodies is such a thoughtful gesture too! We had such a great stay and will definitely be returning next time we visit Whitby!

On arrival we were really delighted with the welcome pack, it was fabulous, we were also extremely pleased with the Sky TV provided, however on arrival we had to give the bathroom a clean it wasn’t up to scratch, the mattress on the small double bed was way to soft for us, which I know is a personal preference.

The location of Over Esk is excellent a nice walk to the centre with a great pub pit stop along the way.

House as described, thoughtfully presented & very well equipped. Excellent shower. Lovely welcome hamper which was an unexpected surprise, thank you. Sky tv a great extra, thank you. Never had this in a cottage before. Whitby is a lovely town. Lots of history and exploring to do. We loved the piers. We were lucky with the weather. Lots of dog walks very close by. We were also lucky enough to see the Tour of Britain cycle race come down our street :) We walked along river Esk a lot. We walked to Larpool viaduct. Lots of birds to see including a kingfisher. Plenty of places to visit close by. We went to Robin Hoods Bay, Goathland and Thornton Le Dale. Lots of lovely independent shops in Whitby which was lovely to see. Our bins were emptied on Wednesday morning very early on so this was a good thing too. We know we can trust Sykes listings as have used several times before.

property position very good , housekeeping very poor , the ceramic hob was in a very poor condition my wife spent 30 mins cleaning it , the 2 frying pans had to be cleaned underneath to prevent further damage to hob ,the large utensils in the yellow boot next to hob were all caked in grease all had to be washed before use ,one of my dogs was shedding hair we found the dyson to use it was so clodded up it wouldnt start until it was emptied , the tv unit had not been dusted in ages not value for money compared with previous property near Ruswarp

Lovely house to stay in for the week.

Perfect location and very homely. We had everything we needed and more. The welcome hamper was a lovely surprise and was very generous, thank you. The garden was a great sun trap and we appreciated the nice outdoor furniture on sunny afternoons. We will definitely be staying again in the future.

Great location within easy walking distance of Whitby just a short 10 -15 minutes walk, would be quicker if we didnt have a couple of miniature dachshunds in toe with little legs.

Over Esk was exceptionally clean with a lovely welcome pack on arrival, even catered for the dogs with treats and dog toys. Great addition was the SKY TV, I dont think we've ever been anywhere where you can catch up on your soaps on the TV and are not scrambling for something to watch of an evening when you want to relax. Garden is an added bonus and sun trap, with nice furniture to relax in. Every little detail catered for, we will definately be back. Only let down was the small double bed when you are used to a King size.

The cottage was clean and comfortable and had everything we needed. The welcome pack was a lovely treat and even had doggy chews for our little dog. We would definitely stay again .

The owners have done everything to ensure a relaxed and comfortable holiday.

Such a warm house, we hardly had the heating on at all for the week. The hamper was fantastic. Very safe enclosed garden. The only issue was parking as it was chaotic with residents of the flats across the main road parking in dangerous places and blocking access, but this is outside the control of the owners. Everything about the cottage was otherwise perfect.

This is a very nice house & we'd stay again.

One small thing was there was no tv in the main bedroom. Other than that it's a very well equipped and comfortable property.

They said there was a washer dryer in the welcome book, there wasn't.

Also said information on refuses & recycling days for bins available on back of main kitchen cupboard door not there, found out during our stay that it was refuse week after the they had emptied the bins to late for bin to be put out, but wouldn't have been able to put bin out as bin was absolutely full off past people's rubbish.

Well presented, clean cottage with all the amenities needed for a great stay.

We were made to feel very welcome upon arrival with some unexpected treats left for both us and our dog which was a lovely surprise. The cottage was very dog friendly with a lovely enclosed back garden and blankets to make her feel warm and cosy. The location was perfect for us with pubs and shops a short walk away with roadside parking easily available outside the cottage. A real gem, would definitely stay here again :)

This cottage was rated at 3 ticks we believe that has it has been refurbished it should be 4 ticks , it exceeded our expectations and was excellent .

It’s ideally located only 10 minutes walk into town , a good enclosed garden perfect for dog owners and a nice decked area for outdoor eating. Clean and well presented .

Very comfortable and clean with the added bonus of car parking outside. Great position to enjoy Whitby with just a few minutes walk to town centre and all the bars and restaurants.

No where to hang outdoor coats,no where to put shoes after being out, not enough wardrobe space, could do with a lamp in the living room,not worth the money we paid
